Review of The Toll Gate

16 Jan 08, 23:18

Best English breakfast in North London 5*

These guys use nice sausages, bacon and tomatoes (which they fry properly) and create the most genuinely home cooked fry up with a little parsley garnish that I have ever tasted.

It is in an unprepossessing location a short stumble from the doors of the Archway Tavern but it is worth finding if you are in the area and fancy one of the best breakfasts the area has to offer. It will cost you a fiver. If you want the normal pale imitation of an English breakfast there are a large number of baked bean baiters along the Junction Road but the Tollgate is the real deal. Long may it prosper!

Review of Settle Inn

Nice pub; not quite gastro 3*

It is quite easy to ignore the traffic thundering by on the A1 as you enter this updated local. It has gone off a little recently but it serves fantastic freshly cooked Thai food (which can also be taken away). The selection of beers is adequate and the wine drinkable. Of an evening the residents of the Whitehall Park and Highgate Hill communities frequent it (along with the odd up and coming gangster from the area) and the atmosphere warms up.

Review of St. Johns Tavern

16 Jan 08, 23:27

Lovely food - noisy restaurant 4*

This is a nice pub with a separate boozing and eating area. The eating area out back is long and low and when full gets a little too loud. Other than that we had a really nice evening.

Review of Leon

18 Jan 08, 23:42

My kids like Leon 5*

I love Leon's food and eat there occasionally at the Carnaby St restaurant; I took some visiting Norwegian colleagues there and they were really blown away...

BUT I would not have thought to take my (11,9 and 7) kids there had we not been escaping a crowded Science museum when we happened on the familiar logo in Knightsbridge when they we peckish.

They loved everything about it. The style of the decor and the way the food is presented and cooked - they picked off the parsley garnish, but hey - and even the picky youngest wolfed the chicken pieces he chose. Definitely a hit.

Review of The Breakfast Club

These people are natural marketeers 5*

I love the funny little messages on the board outside; they make me smile as I pass on the way to work.

I work next door to these guys and what is interesting is that this shop has been opened (and shut) by many different owners in the last ten years but these guys have got it, they have made it a vibrant and enjoyable little cafe with bags of character. I love everything about it. And it has free Wifi!

Review of Thai Cottage

29 Jan 08, 02:03

Best small thai restaurant in London 5*

This little restaurant is run by Sue and her family and it is the friendliest little place ever. It is a little grotty in the corners but the cooking is down home Thai food cooked by Grandpa and hubby. All the dishes are great and I have never had a bad meal in here, and I have had a lot.

Not somewhere to go for a swanky date, but excellent place to come for a good, genuine thai meal.

Review of Palms Of Goa

The works canteen 4*

These guys are the friendliest Goan restaurant in all London. The restaurant is small and the chairs are hard but the food is lovely. All the staff are delightful as well. I have never had a bad meal here in all the time we have been coming here, and we have come here a lot!

Review of Yummy Yummy Chinese Takeaway

02 Mar 08, 21:44

Decent chinese takeaway 4*

The sign outside, a cut above the usual crappy white plastic one, shows that there is a bit more pride taken in this establishment and the quality of the food bore this impression out. The two pleasant Chinese ladies who served and cooked the food were pleasant and efficient and the won ton soup and crispy duck were divine. All in all this takeaway is highly recommended.
