Review of Citrus Cafe
08 Nov 07, 19:15
A bit of zing
With a menu very similar to their city centre establishment, the Citrus Cafe found in Headingley has more of a lively atmosphere than the aforementioned Corn Exchange one but the food is of the same quality and staff seem friendly and relaxed here- and I wasn't kept waiting half as long. A chilled, modern decor and some tasty dishes will keep you entertained. Pop in later on for more of a bar feel and drinks with friends. One extra star as it's an improvement on the other cafe bearing it's namesake.

Review of Citrus Cafe

Citrus Cafe
This cafe can be found on the bottom floor of the impressive Corn Exchange building, and is a pleasant stop for lunch, particularly on a weekday when it is fairly quiet so ideal for a lunch date. A range of paninis, salads and jacket potatoes are available as well as some yummy main meals including burgers and so on, plus tasty smoothies and cakes. The food is always of a good standard and filling. However, the service lets the cafe down considerably- though staff are polite and apologetic, I was left waiting stupidly long for two sandwiches when the cafe was almost empty- and this has happened on several other occasions, so not ideal if you are in a rush or lacking patience. If you are feeling leisurely though, eating here is a nice laidback treat. See other review for their second eatery.

Review of The Hungry Caterpillar

Hungry for Health Food
This quaint health food store, The Hungry Caterpillar, is located on Hyde Park corner and stocks a large selection of tasty and organic health foods for guilt-free snacking and cooking. Some items are expensive though they are of good quality. Ideal supplies for vegetarians and vegans and those with specialist diets, and service seems friendly and polite. A good independent shop to support if you want to feel better about your food stuffs and how they are sourced.

Review of Mojo

Mojo..
A funky rock'n roll stylee cocktail bar, Mojo's is not cheap but it is effortlessly cool and popular. This reviewer was disappointed by the lack of cider on her last visit, but can forgive such a classy joint for this one mishap- there are more elegant drinks to be had than a pint of Strongbow in here anyway. Busy and chatty on weekends, the crowd makes the atmosphere here so it's less fun when it's quiet. Good for a stop earlier on in the night when you are still able to appreciate the bar you are drinking in!

Review of Tokyo
08 Nov 07, 18:39
Tokyo Nights
Tokyo's nightclub is a welcome presence to Huddersfield's modest nightlife, boasting the town's most worthwhile student night with an eclectic mix of dance, indie, pop and house tunes and also hosting Club NME each week, featuring live bands and DJ's til late. Bar prices are reasonable, and become cheap if you get accosted by someone in the street with flyers/wristbands- and there are Disney parties, Army nights and so on throughout the year. Get there early to avoid queuing, especially on Wednesdays when it's uber popular. A more classy student club, and less cheesy than a good deal of the neighbouring bars.

Review of Wokon

Woked Out
Wok On is a quirkly little noodle bar located close to the trendy drinking area of Call Lane, but very reasonably priced if you want some cheap grub before a heavy night. There is a tantalising selection of dishes, portions are huge and you can get a great meal deal for two including starters, main meals and drinks for about 12 quid. Best of all it's super quick so good for power lunching too. A healthier, fulfilling alternative to fast food in a pleasant environment, with very polite staff.

Review of Body Piercing Studio
17 Oct 07, 18:15
Piercing Place
These studios, located on call lane close to popular bars and the more alternative end of town, are a reasonable place to get pierced or tattooed in Leeds. Staff seem friendly and efficient when you call in to make an appointment, which will usually be for the following week and the studio itself is clean and sterile, an obvious requirement for such an establishment. Prices are reasonable; a small wrist tattoo cost me £25.00. The tattooists manner was pleasant and laidback. and she made me feel at ease. Recommended.

Review of Grin

Grin and bear it
If you like more 'alternative' fashion and accessories you will find them in Grin, a little shop tucked away in the Corn Exchange in the city centre. This may be the first stop for young teens coveting wide legged jeans and t-shirts with offensive slogans on them, but it also stocks a cute selection of other trendy clothing brands such as Nomad and Chili Pepper, and various shoes and trainers, as well as 'gothic' clothing and jewellery, make up, and random novelties. This shop used to be absolutely crowded on a weeke.nd; it seems less popular these days but still worth a browse whilst shopping

Review of Sugar Lump
17 Oct 07, 18:03
Sugary sweet
Sugar Lump is one of the many speciality shops in the magnificent Corn Exchange building. Like each business there, it's a small, compact shop, and like the majority of the establishments here is also fairly obscure in what it sells. Here we have an interesting selection of less conventional greeting cards, wrapping paper with explicit words printed on it, and smoking paraphernalia. Some fun items you might not find elsewhere in Leeds.

Review of Retro Boutique
15 Oct 07, 10:39
Popular vintage
This shop stocks both vintage clothing items and furnishings, so is a must for local fashionistas. Some clothing can be quite expensive, but they do sell some beautiful dresses and jewellery from other eras and I think the quality of the items surpasses that of many other vintage shops. There can be the odd bargain, though, and it's always worth the time to stop and browse through the racks or gaze at the gorgeous shoes in the window. They also sell newer (ie not retro) things, at slightly cheaper prices, and modified pieces from local independent designers. If you see something you like, grab it- this shop is right in the middle of the student area and if you don't buy it immediately, someone else will.
