Review of The Subculture
02 Oct 07, 23:19
Culture Vulture
theSubCulture, formally the Bassment, is located in the Merrion Centre in the heart of the city. A haven for fans of alternative scenes, nights range from electro pop mayhem to the legendary Black Sheep goth night. The club itself could stand to be redecorated but drinks are dirt cheap- we're talking £1.20 for a vodka and coke- and there is some good DJ'ing, so I'll let it slide. When te room is full this place is great, with a smaller group it's not so good, so a weekend is the best bet. They also offer a pub style afternoon on a Saturday and the occasional live band. Worth it every now and then.

Review of Rios Leeds
02 Oct 07, 23:07
Rio-t
Rio's is a big music venue spread over several floors and new to Leeds, opening only a number of months ago: though the name is already well known in West Yorkshire due to the Bradford version of the club which existed for many years. Now that is gone and it has re-opened in the club that was previously Heaven and Hell in Leeds .Musical promotions include local bands through to large touring acts, particularly of the rock and metal variety. Clubnights playing a selection of rock metal, punk and alternative tunes follow on the weekends. The main room is refurbished and looking great, in stunning purple decor with a fab PA and great lighting. Downstairs is more of a sorry state, however, as that room does not appear to have changed from the days of H&H and is desperately in need of a makeover. Drinks aren't cheap but not outrageous; a few changes are needed but it has fantastic potential.

Review of Wire
02 Oct 07, 20:11
Wired up on a weekend
Popular club Wire is located on trendy Call Lane, home of nice but overpriced bars and venues, and owned by the same people as The Hi Fi and Fav. Be careful not to fall down the stairs (they are a little steep) and you'll encounter a cosy dark club with an often heaving crowd. On Thursdays there is Fuzzy Logic, a rock/indie night playing everything from local favourites to guitar classics. Resident DJ Debstar may even play your own band if you ask her nicely enough. Drinks are quite expensive but there are usually offers on certain bottles and mixers on some nights. Also worth checking out is Strangeways, a monthly club night on the first Friday playing a mix of 80's stuff, fun pop, electro and a bit of most other genres. This goes on late and everybody dances like a maniac. Not to be missed.

Review of The Hifi Club
02 Oct 07, 20:04
Hi Five
The Hi Fi Club is sassy, classy, and a good venue for those into funk and soul, due to the nature of several of its club nights. It also plays host to other one off gigs and a popular monthy night, the Tea Time Shuffle, where live music is offered on a Friday between 6.30-10pm. These gigs are always well attended and feature a great range of acts so there is something for everyone. The bar is fairly pricey and the club can get stupidly busy on a weekend later on, but it's worth it if you like somewhere with a bit of style. Some super drunken nights have been had here by this reviewer. Other events held here include comedy nights and a fashion show is upcoming. Fun.

Review of Club Mission
02 Oct 07, 19:15
On a Mission
Mission is one of the few night spots in Leeds to offer late night clubbing, with some Saturdays events going on til 7 or 9am. Door prices are steep to cater for this however; expect to pay £12- 15 on a weekend. Thursday offers a gay night, with a good mixed crowd and a reasonably friendly environment, for a much cheaper door tax. The place itself resembles the neighbouring club The Cockpit in layout, but with more of a space age, 'Ibiza' club feel to reflect the nature of the venue. Many rave about it though I personally find it disappointing, and the doorstaff can be rude and unfriendly on a weekend. Expect to queue for 30mins +.

Review of Trash
02 Oct 07, 19:01
Lets get trashed
Having recently undergone a refurbishment and name change to boot, Trash is now proudly done out in garish shades of shocking pink with an appropriately snazzy neon sign above its door lighting up most of Albion Street. The bar/venue serves a range of bottled and draught beers, fairly reasonable prices for a city centre location, and boasts live music every night, with entry to gigs usualy costing a mere £4. Less busy during the week, candlelit tables making it an enjoyable spot for a quiet drink with a friend; Saturday nights often see the bar heaving with more laddish punters. Good for gig goers and those who don't mind a slighty cliquey atmosphere; everyoe is very friendly really!.
