Review of The Living Room

24 Apr 08, 15:28

The Living Room 4*

A lovely menu and a mind blowing choice of cocktails.

This is well worth a visit as the food was wonderful. I ordered the Sea bass and is was cooked to perfection.

If cocktails are your thing this is also the place for you. The do everything from a classic cosmo or martini to those featuring the most bizarre combinations.

I would agree with previous reviewers that the service isn't wonderful but hopefully this will improve after a few more reviews!

Review of Bella Italia

Bella Pasta 3*

Very much standard Italian fare.

Nothing special really.

Although the food is not bad, its certainly not incredible. The prices are beween £8-£12 for a main course but my advice is to pay a bit more and go somewhere a little more authentic.

Review of The Jamhouse

Jamhouse 3*

This place is a far cry from Broad Street and so attracts a slightly older crowd.

Food and drinks here are pricy but you are paying for the location, and I would be inclined to say its worth it every once in a while!

It has a good size dance floor and the upstairs is also available for hire.

Review of Apres

24 Apr 08, 15:15

A good place for both food and drinks 3*

Excellent offers on food early in the week and plenty on the menu.

Its reasonably priced and offers good value for money.

This relatively new chain of bars looks fantastic, and with bright red decor makes a change from the usual chocolate brown bars!

It's also a great place to to start your evening and enjoy a few drinks.

Review of Yo! Sushi

24 Apr 08, 15:12

Yum! 4*

This is one of those places to see and be seen.

In true style you choose your dishes as they rotate round the table. each one is priced according to what is in it and is colour coded to make it easier to add up.

If you love Sushi this place is a must.

Review of Big Wok

24 Apr 08, 13:29

Big Wok 3*

I'd heard about this place for ages, but never been brave enough to join the massive queues outside on a Saturday lunchtime. But we decided to give it a go. The queue moved very fast and we were soon inside and sat at our table. You give your drink order first and then they give you the drill. Basically you go get a plate and fill it up as much and as often as you want. The range of food is brilliant... and it's all hot and didn't taste as if it'd been sat there for ages. There's no shame in how many times you can go up - I got worried on my 4th visit, but nobody noticed so I had a 5th visit as well. My to kids loved it as they could choose what they want and leave what they didn't. Once you've gorged on all the oriental goodies it's time for dessert, cheesecake, ice creame, fruit salad - oh the ice cream comes from one of those machines used on ice cream vans and you get to control it yourself, which was great fun.

Review of Bullring Shopping Centre

Check out the markets! 4*

Well I wasn't prepared for the smell when I opened the doors to the meat and fish market. The odor of the north sea hits you immediately - that's no bad thing. It just shows how fresh everything actually is. I was amazed to see the range of meat/fish on offer and the prices were amazing. They can't throw it at you quick enough. With the current hike in prices on the high street, believe me this is the new way to get your meat for cheap - just make sure you've got plenty of freezer space!

Review of Mr Egg

24 Apr 08, 13:24

Mr Egg 3*

It's been sometime since I last visited Mr Egg. You used to be able to get anything 'Eggy' for £1.50... Egg and Chips... Sausage and Egg... Egg sarnies (get the idea). Well they've changed owners now, but the menu is mostly the same. It's abit like an old style greasy spoon inside now. Sadly it's not as good as it used to be. I get the feeling they're trying to carry on the famous name of Mr Egg - but they've cut back on the quality. The staff were really friendly though, and for those who remember it the ceiling egg is still there. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about then you'd better go take a look!

Review of Alexandra Theatre

22 Apr 08, 17:32

A classic theatre experience..... 3*

...complete with ice cream at the interval!

I love this theatre despite it not being as new or shiny as its rivals. It really is traditional theatre.

They show everything from plays, musicals and opera to featured performers on their way up.

Expect to pay more for sweets and drinks but realise this all part of the experience.

Best thing is to pre order your interval drinks at the bar so they are ready and waiting for you to enjoy.

Review of Strada Restaurant

22 Apr 08, 17:25

Not bad! 3*

The best thing about this place was the company.

I went here with my boyfriend and we had a great evening but the food really was nothing special.

We both asked for ingredients to be ommited from our main courses but this was ignored and to a degree spoilt the food.

Not bad, but I agree with a previous review, Pizza Express is far nicer!
