Fantastic! 4*

I really enjoyed this place. Plenty to entertain adults as well as children. A truly good day out. Set over 3 floors the exhibits cover everything from the history of birmingham, how the body works, recycling and space and the future. (And lots more!)

If you have time see a show at the planetarium or watch a movie at the IMAX.

Review of Marks & Spencer

Great for a quick lunch 4*

Lots of choice in this marks and spencers 'simply food'.

It is situated just opposite Snow Hill station so is perfect if you need to grab food on the go or if you have time you can relax nearby, outside the cathedral.

I love this place just because of the amount of choice and food available. Even if you don't manage to escape the office until 3pm for a break....there are still products on the shelves!

For the health concious there is also a good range of salads, wraps and sushi.

Review of Old Orleans

25 Apr 08, 16:12

A relaxed and friendly place for food 3*

This is a lovely Old Orelans that benefits from being in a lovely big building with seperate dining areas. One of which even has a lovely open fire.

The food is not bad. not wonderful, but overall decent enough. Go for the atmosphere!

The prices are not bad and the portions are pretty big. They also have offers on certain nights such as 2 for 1's and there is a car park to the rear.

Review of Ethos Urban

Ethos 4*

This is a wonderful place to buy a beautiful bouquet of flowers that are sure to impress your other half or make your mum very happy.

I would also agree with a previous reviewer. The flowers are not expensive and wondrfully arranged.

The shop also stocks a good range of greetings card which are perfect for that last minute buy.

Review of PizzaExpress

Mmmmm! 4*

A truly great restaurant.

I have been here on the busiest of nights and the staff are still friendly and the food of excellent quality.

I would not say this is an expensive as a restaurant as most courses are around £8.

It is certainly worth ordering the dough balls to start and aving room for cheesecake!

There is plenty of space as the restaurant covers two floors and with big open kitchens you know nothing funny is being done to your food!

Review of Bennetts

24 Apr 08, 15:33

Somewhere a bit different 3*

This is by no means a wonderful bar in terms of drinks and service, and I also feel it is a little lacking on tables......

....however the building is amazing. It still retains its original features from when, I think, it was an old bank.

Worth a look!

Review of The Living Room

24 Apr 08, 15:28

The Living Room 4*

A lovely menu and a mind blowing choice of cocktails.

This is well worth a visit as the food was wonderful. I ordered the Sea bass and is was cooked to perfection.

If cocktails are your thing this is also the place for you. The do everything from a classic cosmo or martini to those featuring the most bizarre combinations.

I would agree with previous reviewers that the service isn't wonderful but hopefully this will improve after a few more reviews!

Review of Bella Italia

24 Apr 08, 15:23

Bella Pasta 3*

Very much standard Italian fare.

Nothing special really.

Although the food is not bad, its certainly not incredible. The prices are beween £8-£12 for a main course but my advice is to pay a bit more and go somewhere a little more authentic.

Review of The Jamhouse

24 Apr 08, 15:20

Jamhouse 3*

This place is a far cry from Broad Street and so attracts a slightly older crowd.

Food and drinks here are pricy but you are paying for the location, and I would be inclined to say its worth it every once in a while!

It has a good size dance floor and the upstairs is also available for hire.

Review of Apres

24 Apr 08, 15:15

A good place for both food and drinks 3*

Excellent offers on food early in the week and plenty on the menu.

Its reasonably priced and offers good value for money.

This relatively new chain of bars looks fantastic, and with bright red decor makes a change from the usual chocolate brown bars!

It's also a great place to to start your evening and enjoy a few drinks.

Review of Yo! Sushi

24 Apr 08, 15:12

Yum! 4*

This is one of those places to see and be seen.

In true style you choose your dishes as they rotate round the table. each one is priced according to what is in it and is colour coded to make it easier to add up.

If you love Sushi this place is a must.

Review of Big Wok

24 Apr 08, 13:29

Big Wok 3*

I'd heard about this place for ages, but never been brave enough to join the massive queues outside on a Saturday lunchtime. But we decided to give it a go. The queue moved very fast and we were soon inside and sat at our table. You give your drink order first and then they give you the drill. Basically you go get a plate and fill it up as much and as often as you want. The range of food is brilliant... and it's all hot and didn't taste as if it'd been sat there for ages. There's no shame in how many times you can go up - I got worried on my 4th visit, but nobody noticed so I had a 5th visit as well. My to kids loved it as they could choose what they want and leave what they didn't. Once you've gorged on all the oriental goodies it's time for dessert, cheesecake, ice creame, fruit salad - oh the ice cream comes from one of those machines used on ice cream vans and you get to control it yourself, which was great fun.

Review of Bullring Shopping Centre

24 Apr 08, 13:26

Check out the markets! 4*

Well I wasn't prepared for the smell when I opened the doors to the meat and fish market. The odor of the north sea hits you immediately - that's no bad thing. It just shows how fresh everything actually is. I was amazed to see the range of meat/fish on offer and the prices were amazing. They can't throw it at you quick enough. With the current hike in prices on the high street, believe me this is the new way to get your meat for cheap - just make sure you've got plenty of freezer space!

Review of Mr Egg

24 Apr 08, 13:24

Mr Egg 3*

It's been sometime since I last visited Mr Egg. You used to be able to get anything 'Eggy' for £1.50... Egg and Chips... Sausage and Egg... Egg sarnies (get the idea). Well they've changed owners now, but the menu is mostly the same. It's abit like an old style greasy spoon inside now. Sadly it's not as good as it used to be. I get the feeling they're trying to carry on the famous name of Mr Egg - but they've cut back on the quality. The staff were really friendly though, and for those who remember it the ceiling egg is still there. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about then you'd better go take a look!

Review of Nando's

22 Apr 08, 17:00

Good Quality Fast Food! 3*

With Nando's you know what you are going to get....and that is great chicken!

Simply choose how hot you want your chicken and then how you want it served, pick a side and your ready to go!

The service is normally quick with orders placed and paid for at the till. It does however have a restaurant feel which is lovely and laid back.

Review of Cafe Rouge

22 Apr 08, 16:56

Something a bit different 3*

One of the few places that doesn't seem to be packed on a friday or saturday night.

The french menu offers a wonderful choice of dishes which can be enjoyed while sipping on a Kir Royale or two.

It has yet to let me down and I am quite a regular!

Review of Lush

22 Apr 08, 16:49

Totally Lush! 4*

If you have never bought anything from Lush you really are missing out.

All their products use fresh ingredients, very little chemicals and are all made by hand.

Try one of their famous bath bombs and if you are a sensitive type like myself noting feels more wonderful on your skin than the the moisurisers in Butterball.

Oh....and they do lovely gift boxes! Perfect for a present.

Review of Shimla Pinks

22 Apr 08, 16:25

Great food! 4*

Quite honestly one of the best curry's I have eaten.

The dish I ordered was full of flavour with a great taste. Not just 'Hot' like many I have eaten elsewhere.

It is much more expensive than other curry options in the city but great for special occasions.

Give it a go, I don't think you will be dissapointed!

Review of San Carlo

22 Apr 08, 16:17

Yum! 4*

I love this place. I have only eaten here once to date but the food was great.

Slightly more expensive than the other Italian restaurant chains however well worth it. There is a good range of dishes to choose from on the menu and the portion sizes are perfect.

The decor (lots of plants and lots of green) also takes you away from birmingham. Perfect for a romantic dinner.

Review of Electric Cinema

21 Apr 08, 17:30

Part of Birmingham's History 4*

A truly wonderful cinema not to be missed.

The films they show are a mix of mainstream and independent films as well as few classics.

If you have the cash get a sofa seat for £12. This gives you a lovely comfy seat and the text waitress service option.

They have a good bar if you fancy a beer, glass of wine while you relax infront of the film.

Or you can even get a nice cup of a tea and a slice of cake...heaven!

Review of Selfridges

21 Apr 08, 17:10

Sensory overload! 5*

Whenever I want to show a visiting friend something really great about birmingham I always take them to Selfridges in the Bullring.

The ground floor food hall and shop really has to be seen to be believed and offers everything from a champagne bar to Sushi and even a Crispy Creme cafe. Amazing. The sights, sounds and smells are wonderful.

Also downstairs you will find a huge range of imported food products so if Hersheys chocolate is your idea of a treat, this is the place to find it.

In a hurry! This is a one stop shop! 4*

If you only have your lunch hour to find the perfect outfit for your night out I reccomend House of Fraser.

Quicker than walking the entire Bullring, House of Fraser has a good range of concessions within a matter of metres. These include Oasis, Mango and Warehouse. And if your budget with stretch, Miss Sixty and Diesel.

Review of Radisson Sas Hotel

17 Apr 08, 16:44

One day....... 5*

I will live in the penthouse suite at the Radisson!

But until then I am more than happy checking into one of their lovely standard rooms.

The decor is lovely and with floor to ceiling window the views are great.

Its wonderfully located near to New Street Station, the bullring shopping centre and various theatres, and even has its own fine Italian restaurant.

Most reccomended!

Review of Eat

17 Apr 08, 16:20

Try the soup! 4*

Eat Soup has become something of a cult within our office and Chicken Pot Pie day is not to be missed!

Fresh and filling and priced around £3 it makes an excellent lunch option. (And you can check the weeks menu online!)

Soup aside, eat also does a great range of sandwichs, baguettes and my favourite...sushi.

Something for everyone here.

Review of Wagamama

17 Apr 08, 16:15

High Quality Fast Food 5*

Need a quick dinner or just something hot and healthy to give you the strength to carry on shopping ....head to Wagamama's!

Its fast, friendly and informal. Food is bought to you as soon as its cooked rather than sitting under a hot plate for 10 minutes. This does mean your food wont always arrive the same time as your friends but as long as you know this before you go the best thing to do is tuck in!

If the menu makes your head spin on your first visit try the chicken ramen. Nothing too spicy but the flavour is fantastic.
