Review of New London Theatre

Darius...in a musical...and quite good - who'd have thought it ?
I really had to overcome my complete aversion to Darius when I went to see the stage version of Gone with the Wind...surely no one's forgiven him for "Hit me baby one more time" yet ? I expected to hate him in it but actually he did quite a good Rhett Butler and there wasn't a hint of scottish in his Southern drawl. The production and stage was amazing - the way the cast used the space was incredible. And apart from some (unintentionally) funny moments - like when Scarlett helps deliver a baby on stage - the whole play did justice to the book. Having said that, just try not to laugh when Darius delivers the line "frankly my dear I just don't give a damn"....

Review of Riverside Inn

Great carvery, great garden and Pimms on tap
The Riverside Inn's my local and it's great at any time of year. Cosy and friendly during the winter and in the Summer its beer garden on the river comes into its own. There's a nice mix of young, old and families and the staff are always really friendly - especially the owners. I can't speak highly enough of the Sunday carvery - whenever I have friends to stay for the weekend I take them there because it saves me the bother of cooking a roast myself that could never live up to what you get at the pub anyway. And as if that's not enough...they also have Pimms on tap - pure class.

Review of Strada

Strada - does what it says on the tin
As Strada's a chain restaurant I already knew what to expect when I went to the one in Chelmsford. You won't get revolutionary or even particularly authentic Italian cuisine but you will get reasonable prices for quite good food. What sets the Chelmsford branch apart from other Stradas I've been to is the seating courtyard at the front of the restaurant - bearing in mind it faces directly onto a busy town centre road they've done really well to make it feel secluded. Not a great place to sit with the current weather of rain/snow/hail (delete as applicable) but come the summer it's a lovely way to eat your panna cotta.
