Review of Queen Anne's Cafe

Good value with papers!
Title says it all really. Had a full English Breakfast, including tea/coffee, for £4.00. Included 2 rashers of bacon (or was that a mistake?) plus all the rest, incl mushrooms, etc. And there were free papers to read, and lots of space. Better than one I went into a few doors away recently. 'Nuff said. This one is the bizz. So why 4 stars, not 5? Add wireless internet access and I'll up it to 5.

Review of P Walker Aerials

Top aerial guy
Have to say ... I don't know if Mr Walker does satellite tv ... but this is the nearest category I could get.
I rang three aerial installers when the aerial fell off my roof. Quotes varied - he charged £30 for a call-out (not the cheapest) but his quote actually covered him doing work as well, whereas other quotes didn't include any work!
He came earlier than he said (having phoned first), he was polite and helpful, and seemed to know what he was doing.
An older tradesman - perhaps one of the old school who believes that being polite and doing a job well is what it's all about. I agree ... and from me he gets 5 stars.

Review of New Kwailam Cantonese Restaurant
13 Apr 08, 08:32
Missable gloop
What a lovely spot for a restaurant, but what a disappointment. Although they do great deals for students, we didn't qualify and so went for the set "A" menu, at £18 per person. Slightly pricey, we thought, but whatever. Quantities were small, and the quality of the food was abysmal. One of the courses, lemon chicken, looked as if it was held together with yellow glue. Any surprise I woke up at 4 in the morning with an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach? We were told, "look carefully for the red doorway or you might miss it". I wish we had.

Review of The Beehive Inn

High Peak peaking fairly high
A lovely find in the High Peak area, with good food and surroundings. The one thing that lets it down is grumpy staff, but if you can weather that, you're have found a nice place with a decent food offering. I would return.

Review of Broadway Cafe
05 Apr 08, 09:44
Expensive slop
There are lots of good cafes around London serving great "fat boy's breakfasts". Broadway Cafe is not one of them. Their "Broadway Breakfast", which at £5 (Apr 08) is among the higher end for a cooked cafe breakfast, is a lesson in how to provide the minimum, slopped together. Mushrooms mixed with beans, one sausage, under-cooked bacon, adequate egg, and service without a smile. At least the tea-cups are big.

Review of Kwik-Fit

Kwik? You've got to be joking
Went into Kwikfit Bromsgrove for a brake and tyre check. Appointment was for a booked time. Kwik Fit was so busy that they told me I'd have to leave the car with them.
So what's the point of booking an appointment time if you have to wait?
I left - dissatisfied.

Review of Queens Hotel

Queen of food
4.5 stars actually!! Lovely atmosphere - rural but up-market. Went in there for lunch and had a ploughman's. Nicely presented (although grated cheddar not exciting). Chips fine, but onion rings on the side were the best ever. Very pleasant people and atmostphere. Quiet rooms to sit in - a good place to take friends/colleagues for lunch, etc.

Review of T G I Fridays
03 Mar 08, 17:46
Steak very slowly done
TGI Friday's has a great buzz about it. Good enthusiastic servers, and a real "place to be" feel. But we felt badly let down by disappointing food and really slow service. Went there on Mothers' Day for lunch. Sat down at 1.45, order was taken at 2. Starters arrived before too long - and they were decently nice - skins and nachos (rather soggy, but never mind). The main course didn't arrive til after 3, at the same time I was complaining to the manager. The steaks tasted great, but the accompanying chips and veg were soggy and old, and had probably been waiting around too long. One of the two managers apologised and said they were just so busy. Well, it is Mother's Day ... and if you don't have enough staff in the kitchen, then don't open up all the tables!! Or would that be putting customer service before profits? Anyway, the manager was very nice and offered money off - which amounted to free starters and two (of 6) main courses not charged for. So - they were fair ... but too slow.

Review of Swan Inn

Swan
Lots of people rave about this pub as it is a Bathams one, and therefore serves Bathams. personally not a fan. Unimaginative inside, bit spit-and-sawdust and staff when I went didn't seem that friendly. Really nice garden area out the back though, with good view over fields. Do barbeques in summer I hear and jazz sometime. Worth a try, but go for it on a summer's day and sit outside.

Review of The Talbot Inn

Talbot pub
Lovely old pub with lots of space and really friendly staff. Good pub menu. Price OK. Nice lit fires, lovely old world charm. This is a really old pub and is in the middle of the village. Almost 5 stars, but food is unsurprising, but nicely cooked. Good selection of drinks, and space out the back to sit. A real find. Will go again when in area. Gets full. Not surprising.
