Excellent Hairdresser
Very much a locals hairdressers in the heart of historical Dorchester-on-Thames.
A little expensive but if you are looking for that personal touch and one-to-one service then this is the place for you.
Two very experienced mature women with uptodate talent.

More than a Mechanic
John runs his business from home by a fishing lake. Bit of a bumpy ride down to his garage. A family run business that has been in Dorchester for generations. Loves working on old cars. I love my car and trust him with him 100%. He charges less than 50% per hour than other garages but his work is 100%.
John enjoys cycling (has done lots for charity) and is also a POET. He has produced a fantastic book full of local poems - very close to his heart.
A mechanic that will be your friend for life.

Review of Dorchester on Thames Post Office

Helpful
Eugene, the post-master runs the post office in historical Dorchester-on-Thames. Not only is the post office run professionally but Eugene is very much involved with the village activities. Acting as box office for all events in the Abbey and Village Hall. The post office sells the normal things you would expect a post office to sell but more. There are lots of unusual chinese items in the gift shop run by his lovely wife. Lots of village postcards, picture frames - mainly of the Abbey itself.
The post office is also used for lots of filming such as Midsomer Murders.

Review of Fleur De Lys Inn

No atmosphere
When I first moved to the village this pub was the best. The landlord had been there 30 years and it was a really village pub. Sits opposite The Abbey in the heart of the village.
Since then (under 5 years) they have had 4 different landlords. The food has been rubbish. They slapped some paint on the walls and took away all the characteristics of a traditional pub. It attracts youngsters (under age I think!). Best avoided - suggest you try either The George Hotel or The White Hart Hotel.

Review of The George Hotel

Good Value
We were lost for something to do this Sunday between 6:30pm and 7:30pm and stumbled across The George Hotel offering BOGOF. (by one get one free) pub meal. My husband had fish and chips and I had a ploughmans. The meal for two came to £8.95 - not bad. I then noticed they are doing a lunchtime meal for only £10 Monday to Wednesday. This includes a two course meal plus a drink - a bargain. I have a friend coming to see me Wednesday so I know where I'm going to take her.
PLUS at the beginning of the month they always have a jazz band!
I'm glad we found this historical pub overlooking Dorchester Abbey and High Street.

Friendly
Shaun the landlord always greets you with a smile. There is a "posh" restaurant area for that really special occasion, there is a "nice" area for a nice meal out and you can relax and just eat in the pub area.
The quality of food is excellent in all three areas.
They also have a diners club you can join for free and you can save 10% off your bill!
After dinner relax on their comfy chairs by the homely log fire.
Avoid "football" nights as they have a very small screen in the pub area.
