Quirky and unique
Give me a pub that has this much character over a Wetherspoons any day of the week. But - boy - is it small?! If you want to get in, go early...

Died of thirst so went elsewhere
I must be missing the point of this pub. It doesn't seem to be anything special, yet is busy. I strongly advise that you have a haircut before you go in. You'll be needing another one by the time you've been served.

Wetherspoons is Wetherspoons
I'm always slightly fustrated when I walk into a Wetherspoons - a lot of what they've done for pubs is good: lots of real ale, much better value, no music, etc. But there's always the same niggles: they're all the same! And I don't really like the homogonousness of the pub signs, the menus, the marketing blurb. And it's also unfortunate that the cheap prices tend to attract those who may otherwise be on meths.

Lovely old pub
Admittedly, I've not been in this pub since Wells bought out Youngs. But I hope it's not changed too much. It's a bit of an old man's pub, but I happen to like old pubs and beams in the ceilings. Pass me my pipe and slippers.

Fresh pub
This pub has had a relatinvely recent makeover. So it all looks decent enough, but you get the feeling that they may have overspent on the decor. Or they're just being damned cheeky with their prices. But they've got lots of nice plasma TVs to watch the footy on. So if you're up for watching the game with your mates, try to remember all those tricks you used to use at college when trying to avoid paying for a round.

You can't beat Sam Smiths pubs
As with most Sam Smiths pubs, this is an unusual building. And it offers much more value than the average boozer - good beer at very reasonable prices. But no Stella here - it's all own brand. You'll have to go elsewhere for your 8 pints of wife-beater. A pint of Old Brewery Bitter, please.
