Review of De Montfort Hall
16 Sep 08, 15:14
Had a ball at the hall
I have attended quite a few events etc. at DMH over the past couple of years...
Staff have always been helpful, although they are slow at answering the ticket/general enquiries line.
Parking has never been a problem.
I think it holds around 3/4000 people in the main hall, which is a nice size for a concert, show or stand-up comedian. Can feel empty if, er... it's quite empty.
Leicester sadly lacks much choice when it comes to similar sized venues, although the Curve promises more.

Review of Michael's Hair Fashions
16 Sep 08, 15:09
A unique hair experience
I have only been once and I remember it vividly.
Michael not only cuts hair (it's just him, being Michaels Hair Fashions) but he sings too... Ask to see his organ or collection of music memorabilia and you won't be disappointed!
As for actual hair fashions, I think he does a mean short back and sides.
His barber shop smells like they used to when you were a kid, possibly it hasn't been dusted since then.
Check it out before you commit but tell him Leicester Sound sent you!

Review of Maryland Chicken

Marybland
For cheap food on a night out, it's worth a try.
Personally, I prefer to soak up the alcohol from an establishment with a more trusted brand name, but I appreciate it's not always possible.
The chips are fries and the chicken looks like chicken you'd pull off a bird at home, but if you're steaming you won't mind too much.
Seems popular, still not sure why. I ate there and am still here to tell the tale!

Review of Q Bar

Too cool for pool?
Had not played pool in ages, was used to Rileys pool clubs so was pleasantly surprised by Q!
£6 gets you 60 minutes of pool, not sure how that compares but I felt it was reasonable. Got about 5 games from that.
They also do bar food (did not sample) as well as selling soft drinks and alcohol.
Some dodgy selections on the jukebox and the upholstery good do with a refresh... but for good time pool, you can't beat it in Leicester.

Review of Nando's Chickenland
16 Sep 08, 14:58
Finger chicken good
Have been used to long queues for tables at my local Nandos in Leicester...
Was pleasantly surprised by my Thursday night visit to Nandos Nottingham!
Service was quick and fast and they even brought a latte over for my friend, who turned up later and was not eating.
Seems to have had a re-fub too so why not check it out... Are you too chicken?

Review of Chelsea Football Club
20 Apr 08, 15:35
Blue Is The Colour!
As a Chelsea fan, I would say that a day out at Stamford Bridge is a must.
However aside from the football, there is little to keep you coming back apart from the stadium tours which are first class!
The Megastore has everything Chelsea you could want but little you need apart from the odd training shirt or 10x8 of your favourite player. They do instore signings which is a good opportunity to meet some of the Chelsea players.
Food from the burger vans is your best option for a quick bite to eat but don't get me started on Marco Pierre White's restaurant at The Bridge... WHY?!
Inside the ground, you can eat, drink and bet... But you'll need to leave 5 minutes before the end of the first half if you want food or drink if you want to stand any chance of being back in your seat for the second half. Buying a drink with a screw top? They'll take the lid off you... Madness! We're all yobs, clearly! I wonder, is this typical of other Premiership grounds?
Ladies- You'll get your bags checked thoroughly and the queues at the womens toilets can build up quite quickly, which is not convenient at half-time.
In summary, it feels a little too commercial at Chelsea these days. If you can escape without spending more than your ticket price you'll be lucky!
But with all this moaning I digress... It should be about what goes on during the 90 minutes... COME ON YOU BLUES!

Review of Marshall Of Leicester

Drive In Today!
Purchased a brand new car from Marshall Vauxhall in February 2008.
I already knew what I wanted, so I made this clear and was given a whole host of choices and time to look over what my options were, was not hassled or hurried.
Customer service since purchase has been good, despite a couple of teething problems with the new vehicle (there's always something with any car, I suppose).
Included in my purchase was a one-year AA membership, which might not sound like much but can be an absolute life-saver. Warranties are good, too.
Would have liked to have been offered a 24-hour test drive, as a 'once around the block' with the Salesman in the passenger seat isn't a typical driving situation.
Definitely recommend.

Review of The Rutland & Derby Arms
20 Apr 08, 15:11
Definitely NOT stuck in a rut!
Great bar to enjoy a few early drinks on a night out!
I've been to the Rutland & Derby Arms on a number of Friday or Saturday nights and will continue! Here you'll find a wide selection of drinks served by smart, friendly bar staff in a cool, sophisticated atmosphere.
If you have posh friends visiting, treat them to a pint here and they'll love you forever!
Worth a note for the weekends- When the clock strikes 22:00 the clientelle tends to get a little older (35/40+), presumably because the young guns leave to take their Friday or Saturday nights a gear or two higher!

Review of Salt
20 Apr 08, 15:03
Mmm... Salty!
During my time in Cardiff, this was a regular place for me to grab a post-work drink on a Friday night or a cool place to chill out on a Sunday Morning.
Located in Cardiff Bay, you do have some choice but for the basics (location, price, atmosphere) Salt is hard to beat.
Food is average and during busy periods you can be waiting a while. Best to ask how long it will be, then complain if it takes too long and enjoy a drink on the house!
Quality of DJ has improved over the years, so sit back and enjoy some tunes you know (and some you don't) in a friendly atmosphere.
There is a no trainers policy at times, so be prepared!

Review of Sainsburys
20 Apr 08, 14:58
As You Like It
My first choice supermarket in Leicester.
Good location if you live or work in Meridian, easier to get to than Asda and a more spacious lay-out than Asda.
It is not a 24-hour supermarket, so if you're up for some twilight shopping, try Asda.
Want lunch? If you want to nip into Sainsburys for a sandwich during your lunch hour then get there early (or try somewhere else) as they don't replenish their sandwich stock during the lunch rush (why?).
Typical extras include a clothing range (good for the basics), chart CDs, DVDs and video games plus fairly-priced white goods.
Sainsburys Grove Farm Triangle also have a currency kiosk where you can order/collect holiday money. I have not tried this service yet.
There is a large car park with some disabled and parent/child spaces. Toilets are located instore along with a cafe, which seems popular.
Two cash machines can be found outside the store, to the left of the trolley park. There is a petrol station on site with a small convenience store- You can use your Nectar card, too.
