Review of Martin Company

20 Apr 08, 14:50

I was moved! 3*

I used this letting company to help me find an apartment in Leicester, while living out of the area.

The quality of properties on their books was good and the process of putting down a deposit, signing forms, passing credit checks and agreeing tenancy was the smoothest I have experienced in 10 years of renting.

Staff were friendly and helpful.

Rather unusually, and pleasantly so, they were able to accept payment via debit card. For me, this is a plus because you don't have to spend time withdrawing cash or arranging a bankers draught.

Would recommend.

I Spy With My Little Pie! 3*

Located in the Meridian Business Park, this place is essential if you are one of the thousands of workers in the vacinity!

Hungry? You'll find the usual Beefeater fayre on offer here, split into two parts.

To the right, you'll find the bar, which serves drinks and bar food. Typical drinks on offer here- Most locals are clutching pints of Carling or glasses of white- Don't expect fancy cocktails or a long list of wine!

To the left, there is restaurant dining, where you can expect table service and a wider menu. The service isn't speedy, so if you're planning a quick snack during your lunch hour, opt for the bar!

Review of The Quay

20 Apr 08, 14:25

The Quay, The Secret 5*

Great location, great atmosphere, great staff!

Just off Western Boulevard it's a great alternative to Braunstone Gate and just a five minute stroll!

But what is it?

It's a pub/bar. It serves good food. It has comfy seats upstairs and downstairs with toilets on both levels. What are you waiting for?

Into your sport? The Quay also shows live football on a giant projector and loads of screens around the venue. It is also just a ten minute walk from The Walkers Stadium if you're feeling thirsty for a post-match pint!

The Quay offers you live music on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Often, these are local bands trying to make it to the big time!

The Quay is a serious alternative to Soar Point for students and offers you the chance to bring in any student card for discounts.

Also... This place has a Wii room! Admittedly, you can find that one group of people occupy it for some time, but during quiet spells that could be you!

A little gem in a great part of the City.

Review of Mobius Restaurant

20 Apr 08, 14:16

Mobius A Must 4*

The coolest bar on Braunstone Gate, complete with upstairs fine dining!

Trendy name, trendy music (dance, house etc.) trendy people... Find yourself hanging out at Mobius on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night. Heck, even a Sunday night is good for chilling.

Stay here too late however, and you'll find that the average age of Mobius-goier has shifted to distinctly 30+, sometimes 40+. If you're a pretty young thing looking for a Sugar Momma or Sugar Daddy, then you're in the right place.

Downstairs is for partying and is spacious, if a little narrow. The outside drinking/smoking area is a life-saver in the Summer!

Booking is crucial if you want to secure a table upstairs in the restaurant. You will also need to dress smart/casual.

Weeknights they close early (11pm). This is not so much of a problem as they are usually quite quiet (unless the weather is good).

Review of Nando's Chickenland

20 Apr 08, 14:11

Clucking Good Food! 3*

Love chicken? Love Nandos. Love fast food? You're in trouble.

You can't book a table at Nandos, so you have to take a chance that they'll have a free table. During peak times, your wait will be up to 30 minutes.

TIP: If you're in a large group, do call in advance. They won't be able to book you in, but at least they'll have some notice.

The food is chicken- Burgers, pittas, wings or the whole bird. Vegetarian options are limited so leave the leaf-eaters at home.

You order via self-service so get seated, choose your grub from the menu then queue up at the tills... But remember your table number!

Soft drinks are bottomless, so they give you a glass and you just keep drinking until you want to stop.

You can pay by cash or credit/debit card. There is no need to tip unless you feel your server (or Nandica) has been exceptional.

Despite the lack of booking system or table service, I am still a regular (for my sins!)

Review of Noodle Bar

20 Apr 08, 14:01

Oodles of Noodles! 4*

If you are looking for the cheapest Chinese around... Then here it is!

You'll find all the usual fare here but at a budget price... Popular with students, locals in-the-know and the Chinese (which is a good sign).

Comes with a good reputation, so booking is essential during peak hours. The interior is light and open, although can get a little steamy! Can probably seat 100 people (max) on informal benches.

Don't expect to spend long at Noodle Bar, they like you to eat and go (so it's like Chinese fast food) although they won't hassle you to leave. So be polite, lots of people will want to eat there too!

Should be your first stop for quick Chinese food in Leicester.

Review of Browns

No Frowns At Browns! 4*

This was my first dining experience in London for a few years... I wasn't disappointed!

If you are familiar with the Browns restaurant chain (my other experience was the Browns in Bristol... Excellent!) then you will know what you are getting.

For the newbies, you should definitely try this place out. Food is gastro pub, with a nice wine/drinks menu. There is a relaxed, informal dining enviroment which still manages to let you know you are in a restaurant... Classy!

The views from the windows or outside (in the Summer, naturally) are stunning as you are located on the south side of the Thames in the shade of Tower Bridge. This really is the difference.

We booked for a Sunday night but really didn't need to- There were plenty of tables available (although it was raining).

Located close to Tower Bridge tube and within the Shad Thames area, where you'll find a host of restaurants and bars.

Review of Game

Wii-eally Good! 4*

I haven't been into a computer shop for years, as I have migrated to doing most of my geek shopping online!

However, after seeing a good deal on their website I decided to try out my local store (Gallowtree Gate) and I was pleased.

I was advised by Joe the salesman, who talked me through the various options available to me as a prospective Wii purchaser.

I felt looked after and valued as a customer. They offer a 'click and collect' service too, so if you want to shop online outside of store hours you can do so, then pop in to pick up your items!

The only negative I have is that I reserved a copy of Mario Kart and when I went to collect, I was told they had shifted all their reserve copies. This left me feeling less valued as a customer, although I'm sure they have some justified reason for this.

I would still continue to buy my video games online (free delivery options are a life-saver) but for hardware and trade-in deals, I would recommend these guys.
