Review of Nando's Chickenland

Finger chicken good 4*

Have been used to long queues for tables at my local Nandos in Leicester...

Was pleasantly surprised by my Thursday night visit to Nandos Nottingham!

Service was quick and fast and they even brought a latte over for my friend, who turned up later and was not eating.

Seems to have had a re-fub too so why not check it out... Are you too chicken?

Review of The Rutland & Derby Arms

Definitely NOT stuck in a rut! 4*

Great bar to enjoy a few early drinks on a night out!

I've been to the Rutland & Derby Arms on a number of Friday or Saturday nights and will continue! Here you'll find a wide selection of drinks served by smart, friendly bar staff in a cool, sophisticated atmosphere.

If you have posh friends visiting, treat them to a pint here and they'll love you forever!

Worth a note for the weekends- When the clock strikes 22:00 the clientelle tends to get a little older (35/40+), presumably because the young guns leave to take their Friday or Saturday nights a gear or two higher!

Review of Mobius Restaurant

20 Apr 08, 14:16

Mobius A Must 4*

The coolest bar on Braunstone Gate, complete with upstairs fine dining!

Trendy name, trendy music (dance, house etc.) trendy people... Find yourself hanging out at Mobius on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night. Heck, even a Sunday night is good for chilling.

Stay here too late however, and you'll find that the average age of Mobius-goier has shifted to distinctly 30+, sometimes 40+. If you're a pretty young thing looking for a Sugar Momma or Sugar Daddy, then you're in the right place.

Downstairs is for partying and is spacious, if a little narrow. The outside drinking/smoking area is a life-saver in the Summer!

Booking is crucial if you want to secure a table upstairs in the restaurant. You will also need to dress smart/casual.

Weeknights they close early (11pm). This is not so much of a problem as they are usually quite quiet (unless the weather is good).

Review of Noodle Bar

Oodles of Noodles! 4*

If you are looking for the cheapest Chinese around... Then here it is!

You'll find all the usual fare here but at a budget price... Popular with students, locals in-the-know and the Chinese (which is a good sign).

Comes with a good reputation, so booking is essential during peak hours. The interior is light and open, although can get a little steamy! Can probably seat 100 people (max) on informal benches.

Don't expect to spend long at Noodle Bar, they like you to eat and go (so it's like Chinese fast food) although they won't hassle you to leave. So be polite, lots of people will want to eat there too!

Should be your first stop for quick Chinese food in Leicester.

Review of Browns

No Frowns At Browns! 4*

This was my first dining experience in London for a few years... I wasn't disappointed!

If you are familiar with the Browns restaurant chain (my other experience was the Browns in Bristol... Excellent!) then you will know what you are getting.

For the newbies, you should definitely try this place out. Food is gastro pub, with a nice wine/drinks menu. There is a relaxed, informal dining enviroment which still manages to let you know you are in a restaurant... Classy!

The views from the windows or outside (in the Summer, naturally) are stunning as you are located on the south side of the Thames in the shade of Tower Bridge. This really is the difference.

We booked for a Sunday night but really didn't need to- There were plenty of tables available (although it was raining).

Located close to Tower Bridge tube and within the Shad Thames area, where you'll find a host of restaurants and bars.

Review of Game

Wii-eally Good! 4*

I haven't been into a computer shop for years, as I have migrated to doing most of my geek shopping online!

However, after seeing a good deal on their website I decided to try out my local store (Gallowtree Gate) and I was pleased.

I was advised by Joe the salesman, who talked me through the various options available to me as a prospective Wii purchaser.

I felt looked after and valued as a customer. They offer a 'click and collect' service too, so if you want to shop online outside of store hours you can do so, then pop in to pick up your items!

The only negative I have is that I reserved a copy of Mario Kart and when I went to collect, I was told they had shifted all their reserve copies. This left me feeling less valued as a customer, although I'm sure they have some justified reason for this.

I would still continue to buy my video games online (free delivery options are a life-saver) but for hardware and trade-in deals, I would recommend these guys.

Review of Starbucks

4 Stars for Starbucks! 4*

Unlike Starbucks stores, this outlet is part of Borders bookstores, which adds a friendly feel to the place!

Staff get to know you and your order pretty quickly, so do your best to remember your name if you want the ultimate Starbucks experience.

During peak hours, queues can be 20 deep but the staff work smartly so expect to wait no more than 5 minutes to get served.

There is seating for around 100 people and so you will usually find somewhere to perch. If you're planning on staying a while, try late at night where the atmosphere is more laid back and you can chill out.

Parking is available but is often full during peak hours (especially lunchtime). However, you can park over the road at Sainsburys and walk off a few calories!

Review of O Bar

20 Apr 08, 13:22

'O' My God! 4*

Easily the most chilled-out venue in Braunstone Gate!

I never really notice the music at O Bar and so they must be doing something right to keep me there so long.

Split into two levels, the downstairs has mainly tables and sofas with a small area towards the rear.

Upstairs is exclusively leather sofas and armchairs... Just the place to relax and have good times.

The decor is a little 'retro' but that adds warmth to the already casual feel.

Smoking area is outside on the main road.

TIP: Avoid on Valentines Day if you are a singleton- It's the place couples gravitate to after their cosy dinner!

Review of Marios Chipper

20 Apr 08, 13:17

Super Marios! 4*

As much a part of a night out on Braunstone Gate as any of the bars or pubs!

Marios is a unique concept in dining... Okay, it's a chippy with a bespoke bar/lounge area. Still, what better way to enjoy a battered sausage or pineapple fritter than on a leather sofa watching a widescreen telly and with a pint by your side? Genius!

Food is served on plates with the usual array of condiments available (ketchup, salt, vinegar, mayonnaise etc.). Soft drinks and takeaway options are also available.

Review of The Terrace

20 Apr 08, 13:13

Terrace is Terrific 4*

For the more descerning reveller, a night out in Leicester must include a trip to Terrace!

Wide range of drinks, music is good and you get a certain type of person in Terrace that makes you feel good about your night out.

Has three levels- Entry level (via smoking area), toilets (downstairs from entry level) and a mezzanine level, which is a little quieter.

On Weekends, queueing time can be up to 15 minutes and more often than not it is worth the wait.

Thursday nights usually hosts live music.

Down side is that occasionally I have found a lengthly queue outside, only to find the venue pratically empty inside (or full of blokes). I suppose for the ladies that is not such a problem...

PS- For the ladies looking to bag themselves a Tigers player, you've found the right place!

Review of Saks

20 Apr 08, 13:01

Saks Appeal! 4*

Excellent customer service, good chat, reasonably priced and with a wealth of beauty treatments available... I wouldn't let anyone else near my hair!

Located in the Meridian Leisure Park, there is always ample parking- And if you are a David Lloyd member you get treated to a range of discounts within the complex.
