Review of New Look
13 May 08, 11:18
Welcome to the sauna
I went in here for the first time at the weekend (on one of the hottest days of the year) and all their air conditioning was broken so it was absolutely boiling. I literally ran in to get some cheap flip flops and then dived out the shop. It was really busy and messy. There weren't enough staff on either. The lady who served me was lovely and obviously really struggling in the heat, but their manager needs to sort the place out. Surely you'd get the air con out as an emergency?? But as with all New Looks, great jewellery, SHOES (!) and underwear. It's not as good as the Northampton shop though which literally has entire warehouse dedicated just to shoes. It's rather wonderful. But it's a good size and on a normal weather day would be worth a visit

Review of Tiki Cafe

Fair trade, organic and rainforest alliance coffee
This place is too small really... you hardly notice it! I never realised this but apparently it's coffee is triple-certified - fair trade, organic and rain forest alliance, so you know that you are helping good causes by supporting this place. They don't promote this at all which seems quite strange! There aren't enough chairs in this place (outside chairs, metallic so not comfy at all). There are strange yellow umbrellas inside too.... unusual. I just remember that it was over priced and over crowded. I'll definitely go back now I know about the coffee and the great cause it supports but they need to make more of this!

Review of Palace Chine

Palace Chine
This is a typical chinese restaurant, packed full of tables with pink table cloths but never seems to have any customers! It's expensive but in quite a tacky way, it doesn't look grand. Weirdly, there used to be a holisitc therapy practice which was inside the restaurant! Was so weird because you'd have a consultation with the person (via a translator!) and then go into the back for your acupuncture session! It's not there anymore, but that was always bizarre...

Review of British Airways London Eye

Watch out for the dry humpers
This really is a tourist attraction and a half... I went up in it ages ago and it cost me £12. You're always going to pay loads for something like this. It's so slow but you do get an amazing view. I do have to warn you now though: If you enter one of these pods, you WILL be surrounded by dry humping couples. I don't know if it's something to do with the change in altitude, but suddenly you look around and feel like you're in someones bedroom. I'm all for a bit of romance but please! I'm not a huge fan of things that lock you in either... but you have to go on it once. Just take some wasp spray or something for all the couples!

Review of The Collingtree
29 Apr 08, 09:55
The Collingtree
I went here for dinner ages ago with some friends, and it does very cheap pub food. The pudding I had was amazing, they do giant fudge cake. It's a nice place to relax after work or do and sit in the garden on a sunny day. But it's the sort of place that children and their families flock to, so if you don't like the noise of screaming children fighting over the menu... it's best avoided

Review of Bhs
29 Apr 08, 09:50
Good homeware - clothing disappointing
Are you a grandma? Do you have grey hair? Then this could well be your dream shop for clothing. This BHS is huge and much nicer than the one in Northampton. There is a huge range of homeware on display and they also have a really big cafe upstairs. The underwear is really nice and they have loads to choose from, along with nighties, dressing gowns etc... and it's not just for old people (although you can get some ENORMOUS granny pants in there which will rest above your breasts) The shoes are very dated, as is a lot of the clothes, it seems to be for much older women, but if you're decorating the house you will find some great contemporary stuff in the homeware section...

OK homeware
Whenever I think of BHS all I can imagine are shirts and skirts for school... I certainly would never go in there to buy clothing as it always seem very dated. However, the homeware section upstairs is really nice and you can get some nice bits like lamps and bedding. The cafe is pretty grim though! You can look down and people watch but I would recommend just a cup of tea there rather than lunch. Plus, they used to let people smoke in there right up until the smoking ban which put me off the place - they always seem very backward when it comes to fashion AND what their customers want. If you go to the one in Milton Keynes though, you'll be a lot more impressed. Loads more choice and the cafe is really nice.

Review of Great Horwood Service Station
28 Apr 08, 18:45
Get the job done - bad customer service
Not exactly the top place for customer service or good interior design (!) But it's so handy because they can often fit you in really quickly. They're reasonably priced and they do get the job done quickly. No where near as good as Chapman's down the road in Winslow though... sorry to compare but they are so much better.

Review of Wallis
28 Apr 08, 15:38
What's happened?
What has happened to Wallis? I went in here today and was really disappointed by the lack of choice... it seems to have ages massively. I don't know if they've changed their target market but it's the kind of place designed for 40 year olds. The jewellery is gorgeous but unless you want to look like you're advertising an anti-age facial cream then I would recommend you go somewhere else... very little choice and not much for your money

Review of Ramada Brighton
28 Apr 08, 11:53
Very average
I found this hotel very average... I got quite a good price but if you go on your own (like I did) be prepared to get pretty over looked by the staff. One member of staff didn't even acknowledge me at breakfast because he assumed I was looking for someone. They have a carpark too which is helpful (if you can get a space though as it's small). The room wasn't great but as I didn't pay a great deal I didn't mind too much. Fine for a budget weekend break to Brighton, any longer, I would recommend you look elsewhere...

Review of Claire's Accessories

Cheap jewellery - scary to walk past!
OK... so if you're anything like me and the image of a three year old girl having her ears pierced is enough to make you want to run into the shop and slap the mother for doing it, then this isn't the place for you. I know this place used to (so may not still) have a chair in the window where you could take your baby/child/or even yourself to go and get your ears pierced. That is enough to put me off. The jewellery is very cheap and you can get some nice stuff if you hunt around. But be aware you WILL get elbowed by 13 year old girls with too much hairspray and lip gloss....

Review of Three Cups

For the oldies
This seems to be a bit of an old man's pub... it's either full of old people or 18 year olds. I've only been in a couple of times but I wouldn't recommend this place for a drink - there are a lot of much nicer places to go in Buckingham...

I imagine it'd be better when drunk
Good God.... OK again, you can't enter this place if you take yourself too seriously. If you want a laugh at the end of the night, then it's ideal. Good for a laugh and plenty of places to sit. Better, I imagine, if you are hammered!

Review of The Moon Under Water
24 Apr 08, 10:00
Hmmmmmm - bit busy
This place gets REALLY busy on a Friday and Saturday night, but I'm not quite sure why. I guess the drinks are really cheap so people tend to start the night off there. It's pretty average... not worth a special visit for

Review of Yates's Wine Lodge

Keep an eye on your bag at all times!
This is just an average chain bar in MK - it's OK but it's nothing special. We used to go in there a lot when I was younger for a little dance but the dance floor is really tiny. Plus I got my phone nicked so keep an eye on your stuff all the time...

Review of Republic
24 Apr 08, 09:28
Small
I always feel a bit intimidated going in shops like this - they're a bit cool for me. It's VERY expensive and even if I had the money I wouldn't spend it there. Two tops for £50 - oh bargain. NOT. Staff seem OK but a bit cool for school.... the shop is TINY so don't even THINK of entering if your hands are full of shopping bags

Review of Primark
24 Apr 08, 09:26
Cheap - but be preared to wait
I like Primark a lot, but Northampton's isn't great. The one in Oxford is FAB! But the choice here always seems a bit limited as stuff goes so quickly. Plus their matching underwear is always weird... the bras seem to be made out of paper and when you're like me and need a good lot of padding (!) it's not ideal. The queues are always really long, staff miserable and security guards just seem to hang around making you feel like you're doing something naughty....

Review of Roade Service Station
23 Apr 08, 20:17
Petrol is pretty low
As petrol prices soar with every tap of my keyboard, this seems to be one of the cheapest around (she says looking at the sodding £1.07 a litre price!) It's really handy as it's on my way home from work for bits and bobs but I wouldn't say it was particularly cheap.... staff always seemed miserable until I went into today and saw there's a new man who actually smiled and was friendly.

Review of Sony Centre
23 Apr 08, 19:08
Pricey but impressive
A bachelors heaven. HUGE TVs too big for a normal room that will make your house look like you play for Man U but a huge variety of Sony stuff. Pricey! But you get what you pay for... can't go far wrong with Sony in my eyes

Review of NB's Bar
23 Apr 08, 11:57
Bit disappointing
I know loads of people who go here... but I don't see the massive appeal myself. It's OK but I'd much rather go somewhere a bit more like Society. There's a good outside bit for smokers but I just wasn't feeling the atmosphere in the place last time at all...

Review of Car Shop
23 Apr 08, 11:55
Good selection - stranger service
This place does have a great selection of cars, there are loads BUT I was left massively unimpressed last time when the salesman found it hilarious that I didn't know what car I wanted... I didn't even get in the door before they started firing questions at me. Why is it so impossible to just browse for a car without someone jumping out at you??? So if you want a big selection, they're great, if you want to be treated with respect as a female who wants to browse on her own.... think carefully

Review of The Swan
22 Apr 08, 14:02
Could be better
I know a lot of people who rave about the Swan, but when I went with some friends, my best mate was served up an avocado bake which was literally rock hard avocado swimming in water with a thick cold cheesey topping... I took it back and asked for something else and the woman was REALLY rude about it saying "that's how it's supposed to be". Nice for a drink and to play pool with the Great Horwood massive.... yo... but I wouldn't recommend for food.

Review of Prego
19 Apr 08, 11:59
Not the place to be....
Prego used to be lovely, and it still is... if you're willing to wait around 2 hours for your meal. There are always too many customers and not enough staff. It's such a shame because the food is gorgeous and it's so nice inside (they've also got a courtyard for the summer). They really need to restructure their staff and then it'd be great

Review of Joes Diner
17 Apr 08, 17:42
Hmmmm - unsure about Joe's
I'm not very impressed with Joe's anymore.... the food always tastes to me like it's just come out of a freezer packet, especially the vegetarian sausage and mash, the mash I had last time was like cement. The puddings are good though and they're always really friendly
