Review of John Lewis

Amazing store - helpful staff 4*

For some reason I feel like I spent half of my childhood in the John Lewis cafe looking down on everyone doing their shopping... it would be the oasis I longed for while my mother dragged me around her endless shops on a Saturday. This shop is gorgeous but as you would always expect from John Lewis, although never knowingly undersold, they're still pricey. The furniture is stunning as is all the wall art you can buy. The cafe is a good size, expensive, but you can get a really nice lunch. Ideal at Christmas as they really push the boat out with all the decorations, plus you can look down on Middleton Hall and watch all the decorations and exhibitions. They have massive perfume and makeup counters of which I could quite easily spend 24 hours standing beside. For huge choice it's the ideal place - they even have a whole material section if you make dresses. I recently went in with a friend who was buying an Ipod docking system and the girl who helped her (refreshing change to have a female working in the gadget department) was very helpful and objective with her opinion. Only downside is, because all the shops I prefer are down the other end of the centre, I rarely venture all the way to Middleton Hall noawdays...

5 Stars - amazing bags 5*

Be prepared to walk into quality heaven... the range and the clothing in this shop is fantastic. It's HUGE and you can get pretty much everything you need. Obviously you've got your little designer sections, and then upstairs they've got a lovely (but quite expensive) cafe. It's such a nice place to wander around but I warn you now, the bags are there purely to torture you! If you have no money, then do not enter because you may leave in tears. They are so pricey but they are so beautiful

Review of Bhs

Good homeware - clothing disappointing 2*

Are you a grandma? Do you have grey hair? Then this could well be your dream shop for clothing. This BHS is huge and much nicer than the one in Northampton. There is a huge range of homeware on display and they also have a really big cafe upstairs. The underwear is really nice and they have loads to choose from, along with nighties, dressing gowns etc... and it's not just for old people (although you can get some ENORMOUS granny pants in there which will rest above your breasts) The shoes are very dated, as is a lot of the clothes, it seems to be for much older women, but if you're decorating the house you will find some great contemporary stuff in the homeware section...

OK homeware 2*

Whenever I think of BHS all I can imagine are shirts and skirts for school... I certainly would never go in there to buy clothing as it always seem very dated. However, the homeware section upstairs is really nice and you can get some nice bits like lamps and bedding. The cafe is pretty grim though! You can look down and people watch but I would recommend just a cup of tea there rather than lunch. Plus, they used to let people smoke in there right up until the smoking ban which put me off the place - they always seem very backward when it comes to fashion AND what their customers want. If you go to the one in Milton Keynes though, you'll be a lot more impressed. Loads more choice and the cafe is really nice.

Review of Marks & Spencer

Shopping and cake 4*

I am unhealthily obsessed with the Per Una range in Marks and Spencer Northampton... unfortunately due to the fact I am always ridiculously poor I can never afford any of it, I tend to just go into the shop and just touch it, convincing myself one day I'll be able to go in and buy the lot. Marks on Abington Street is so handy because it's got a whole food hall too. It's got a lot younger and fresher. The underwear is great as is the homeware section (which isn't actually THAT expensive). The best thing about marks is the jewellery. SO much chunky stuff in there at the moment. And then when you've been round the store and maxed out your third credit card you can go to the cafe upstairs for cake.... shopping and cake. Nothing can beat that.

Amazing dresses! 5*

If you're dress-shopping, I would highly recommend this place because they have so many beautiful ones in at the moment. I went in at the weekend and I was spoilt for choice. They're quite pricey (around £80 each) but if you've got a fancy do coming up or a wedding they are perfect. Plus, some of the staff wear the dresses so you can see how pretty they look on too! Really great choice here - definitely worth a visit (but take your credit card because if you're like me you'll want them all and will be able to afford..... none of them)

Review of Dunnes Stores

Good - if you go on the right day 3*

This place is a bit hit and miss... I got some amazing knee highs for about £10 here a little while ago, but if you look at the clothing a lot of it is REALLY pricey but terrible quality. If you need nighties, undies (lots of padding in the bras, happy days!!) and cheap bags it's great, but if you're looking for shirts and trousers it's not good. They have a home bit attached which has some great things in. I bought some gorgeous black and white Elvis and James Dean framed posters in there. If you catch it on the right day, you can pick up a bargain.

Review of Peacocks Stores

Really good value 4*

I LOVE Peacocks. They sell really fashionable clothes but at a cheap price. I've bought lots in here in the past and I've always been really impressed. Their jewellery and accessories are really nice too. For a bargain, I'd recommend it.
