Review of Waitrose

Good size but pricey 3*

This place is still relatively new to Ampthill and is classified as a 'superstore' so it's a good size. The food, as you would always expect with Waitrose is pricey, but if you just need to pick up a couple of bits it's handy. There's loads of parking here too. It's quite tucked away in Ampthill though! Just follow the signs to the superstore...

Review of Tesco

Costa Coffee inside 4*

They're looking into expanding this tesco apparently, which seems a bit odd, as it's pretty large already. But then seeing as Milton Keynes has the biggest Asda in Europe they may be trying to compete. I know a lot of local people are really strongly opposed to this idea. However, I wanted to review this one because it's the first Tesco I know that has opened up a Costa Coffee inside. Tesco cafes are usually pretty gross and so it's good to see this has been recognised and they've allowed a Costa inside. It makes shopping so much more bearable when you know there's a huge slab of caking waiting for you once you've finished...

Review of Superdrug

Superdrug - sells the best fake tan 4*

If you are obsessed with fake tan like I am and you've been looking for ages for the best one... trust me, I have found it. Fake Bake is by far the best. I've been wearing fake tan since I was 15 so almost 9 years of my life and believe me, I have tested pretty much every one going. The trouble is, fake bake is only sold in Superdrug and not boots (why, I don't know!) So this is the place that always has the lotion in stock (other places seem to only have the mousse). It'll set you back about £25 but it's worth it. I always get mine from here because you can park for free in the shopping centre and because this Superdrug never seems to get too busy. They have a huge makeup selection PLUS last time I went in an entire shelf dedicated to fake tan and bronzer only - heaven. So if you want to be bronzed and beautiful, or just have a massive selection of cosmetics, come here. The guy who seems to always be on the tills seems nice too.

Review of Tesco Stores

Sells the world and his wife 4*

If this is the Tesco I think it is (Bletchley) then you could literally buy everything you could ever possibly need in here.... I bought my telly here and the guy was really helpful and even carried it to the car for me. For food shopping, I wouldn't go near as it's bigger than Wembley Stadium but for clothes and jewellery it's great. I saw a dress on the tesco advert, popped in, there it was, bought it for a tenner, bob's your uncle. LOADS of selection and not a bad price....

Review of Roade Service Station

23 Apr 08, 20:17

Petrol is pretty low 2*

As petrol prices soar with every tap of my keyboard, this seems to be one of the cheapest around (she says looking at the sodding £1.07 a litre price!) It's really handy as it's on my way home from work for bits and bobs but I wouldn't say it was particularly cheap.... staff always seemed miserable until I went into today and saw there's a new man who actually smiled and was friendly.

Review of Budgens Supermarket

Amazing home made cakes 4*

This is a handy place to pop in for odd bits (although you will pay a fair bit more) but one thing I love about Budgens is that they sell homemade cakes which are amazing. You feel like you've just walked into a local WI stall except without women in pearls and loafers. So if you fancy pretending to be the dream woman and tricking your partner into marrying an evolving Mary Poppins, buy one, pass it off as your own and he'll be yours for life. If cake isn't the way to a man's heart.... not that I have EVER pretended one of these cakes was my own of course (erm - only at every coffee morning I organise, but don't tell)

Review of Morrisons

23 Apr 08, 20:10

Long long queues..... 3*

If you plan to shop in Morrisons, I would suggest you take an Ipod, a magazine and a book, preferrably Tolstoy's War and Peace because the queues in this place are so ridiculous at anytime post 9am. I don't understand why they don't open more tills. I complained about it once mind you and they did send me a voucher in compensation for waiting about 23872387 hours for a twix.... yes that IS how desperate I get for chocolate. Morrisons is what it is, but this one seems to be pretty disorganised as they go. You have to pay for parking too - hello. How annoying! They do reimburse you, but it's a stupid system

Review of Tesco Stores

Perfect size 5*

Finally - a supermarket you can whizz round quicker than a speeding bullet. Not much choice, but who cares, there is far better things to do than sodding food shop! They're always really friendly too and really helpful. I've come across four members of staff who are exceptionally helpful, particularly the guy who collects the trolleys who will have it whisked from your hands as the final bag is placed in your car. Hoorah. Only downside though is no clothes.... tesco do really nice underwear

Review of Waitrose

23 Apr 08, 19:21

Expensive but best quality 4*

If you have the money, then Waitrose in the way forward. My partner shops in here, not that the likes of me can afford such luxury. I'm more a netto girl and I'm not ashamed to say it. The staff are really friendly though and as food shopping goes (yawn!) it's one of the most chilled places to do it. Quality is second to none too.

Review of Asda Superstore

23 Apr 08, 19:16

Size does matter 1*

This could be some people's idea of shopping delight.... but to me it's torture. It's absolutely huge! You'd need a fortnight to get round. I'm more a grab and run kinda girl (and I always forget stuff) so if you go here be prepared to walk two miles to get the butter and then another two miles when you realised you forgot pasta. Good luck to all those who shop in her, because I doubt you'll come back out again. TOO BIG!
