Review of The Great Eastern

Almost the perfect pub
It's Sunday, you're a bit hungover. You just want a good honest pint in a cosy pub, perhaps a game of cards and a packet of crisps too. Well The Great Eastern's the perfect place to do this. The toilets let this place down, but hey, we don't go to pubs to pee now do we? Check out the fantastic characters who linger in the pub on Sundays - it's great people watching. Beer goggles not included.

Review of The Station
16 Apr 08, 14:32
Lots of potential...
But it just doesn't maximise on it. Just because a pub's next to the station, it doesn't mean that everyone will drink in it. Just the people who get off the long commute back from London who are dying for a beer. It's a shame as there's not many drinking establishments close by, but come on, give it a bit more atmosphere and step up your game to give Hove Station a pub to be proud of!

Review of Tesco Stores

Basket case
They seemed to have sorted out their rather bad basket situation - i.e: there never are any. Recently they've been a bit more fruitful on the basket front though which is good. They have a few individuals on the check outs who are always really friendly and familiar. As with most Tescos they always seem to run out of fresh herbs every time I need that. Why is that?!

Sakib: the personal shopping star
Debenhams have a secret weapon: Sakib the personal shopping star. Debenhams is a great place to get your Benefit beauty products - their counter girls are fantastic, Lauren is a gem.

Review of Michelham Priory

Unspoilt Sussex at it's best
Sussex has got to be the best county in the country. Least of all because we have little hidden treasures such as Michelham Priory to enjoy and boast about. The Great Barn and Lawns are the perfect location for an afternoon strawberry and champagne party as part of their function service. Not so perfect for the bank balance of course. Just watch out for the ghosts...I've seen and heard the bell being rung with no-one pulling the rope late at night. Don't let that put you off though, it all adds to the natural beauty and charm of the place.

Review of Brighton Pier

2p machines rock
Got friend's visiting? Then don't let them escape without taking them for a visit to Brighton Pier. Even if it is for purely selfish reasons so you can play on the 2p machines! I still have no idea what the tactic is to win a fluffy toy, but I enjoy wasting my pocket money trying to find out. The rides aren't open in the evening, but the Pier Party on May 1 is a chance to ride the helter skelter by moonlight when all the rides are staying open for the evening.

Who knew Vegan could be this good?
Who knew Vegan could be this good? If you, like me, are often on the Carol Vorderman detox diet (okay, maybe I'm not on it that often, but I like to pretend), then you can enjoy delicious food here. They do great White Chai Tea too. Their USP is the Stitch and Bitch group which meets weekly to knit and...bitch?! This sums up Brighton's diversity to a tee.

Review of Koba Public House

They know their cocktails
I like Koba. They know their cocktails, and have a great little space to party - formerly the members bar. It's a shame it's stuck next to Waitrose on Western Road, but it's nice to take the girls to when they're down from London.

Review of Brighton & Hove Bus & Coach Co

Buses cost more in Brighton than London
Seeing as buses cost more in Brighton than London, you'd naturally expect a better service. However, I've experienced drivers not bothering to stop and moving off whilst passengers have tried to board. The biscuit came on Saturday night on the No.7 on my way home from seeing some friends in Kemptown. The driver decided to park his bus (complete with passengers) on Queens Road to go into a newsagents and buy himself three chocolate bars. It was late enough - 10:45pm - and he was in the shop for at least 5 minutes. If we're paying through the nose to use buses, at least give us the service we deserve.

Review of The Forager

Nice for a local
This is probably the closest pub to my house, pretty nice for a local at that too. Conveniently on the way home from doing the Tesco shop which is always good to recouperate from carrying the shopping over a nice glass of organic pinot noir. Excellent wine list, lovely service, tasty local food. It's more restaurant than pub prices so we don't eat in there as often as we'd like to (about £15 for a main). Their main competitor is the Ginger Pig on Hove Street, and I think that their food keeps their game up for sure. I think they need to sort out the lighting in there a bit which makes the space feel cold and a bit static.
