Review of Black Rabbit Inn
29 May 08, 22:03
Does country life get any better ?
Does country life get any better than being able to moor a little motor boat outside the Black Rabbit, then be able to eat locally sourced Sussex produce on the banks of the River Arun?
Every time I've been here it feels like time stops still and you've not a care in the world. Despite the fact it's gets incredibly busy during sunny lunchtimes, it is a great location and pituresque beyond expectations.

good place to have a proper catch up with friends or family
This pub is just the cutest. It's got that lovely country pub vibe and their menu is fantastic. It's a good place to have a proper catch up with friends or family as it doesn't get too crowded or leary.

Review of Swallows Return
29 May 08, 19:13
a wonderful selection of traditional pub food
The Swallow's Return is a great location tucked on the outskirts of Worthing. You will need to drive there as you'll risk losing life or limb walking or cycling as it's just off a really precarious country lane. They do a wonderful selection of traditional pub food here though, and the decor's really cosily laid out.

the most fantastic fish and chips
This pub does the most fantastic fish and chips. It's got a great beer garden which overlooks the garden of england country side. The service is really friendly too - Michael who runs the bar is the best bar man you'd ever wish to meet. It gets really busy for food, so don't think you'll get a table Weds to Sun without booking. They don't usually do food on a Sunday but that may well have changed recently.

Review of Griffin Inn
01 May 08, 20:23
a wonderful little pub
The Griffin is a wonderful little pub tucked away in a tiny village called Fletching. You definitely need to drive here (there's no public transport as far as I know). The food here is absolutely lovely, and the bar has that wonderful cosy English country pub feel that you want on a lazy Sunday whilst wearing a big baggy jumper and big shades.

Review of Peacock Inn

the PERFECT country pub
The Peacock Inn is the PERFECT country pub. As you drive up of the beaten track from Uckfield, you're greeted with a beautifully manicured tree which guards the wonderful thatched pub. The service is really friendly, I think that they must get live-in travellers to work the bar so you've got a wonderful chilled service serving up wonderfully ice cold pints.

Review of Freemasons Tavern

Is it me or is the music in here really, really, really loud?
Is it me or is the music in here really, really, really loud? I've been to this bar on many occasion, often in a biggish group of people, which has generally always been a mistake as you just can't hear a word anyone says. Yes. I'm old. I think if they turned the music down and played a better variety of music then it may get a better mix of people who can actually stay here and enjoy it rather than do a quick drink and move on.

Review of Riverside Inn

great for drinks
This is just great for drinks, but especially for delicious food. They do wonderful pizzas, and it's a great place to go for a quiet meal or a bigger function with lots of people. The service is great, the location is beautiful - try and get a seat next to the window where you can look out onto the river, as the name suggests.

fantastic beer garden
This pub has got a fantastic beer garden complete with decking for the grown ups and a little playground for the children. The service here is great...just watch out for the entrance which is on a rather precarious sharp turn in the road.

I urge you to pay this wonderful pub a visit
This pub has got the friendliest service I have ever experienced. I turned up here very thirsty after a very long bike ride. The landlord and lady had just shut up shop after a busy lunchtime and they opened up their bar again just so I could get a drink. I urge you to pay this wonderful pub a visit. I am going back again very soon to enjoy the menu which looked lovely.

Review of Ancient Mariner

Sausage and Mash-tastic
What a great little USP. At The Ancient Mariner you can drink a nice pint, whilst eating one of their fabulous choices of Sausage and Mash and play a board game all at once. It's a great spot for a sundowner too if you sit outside on the decking out the front.

gorgeous garden
I've only been in this pub once and it was pretty quiet, although I think it's because we'd just missed the Sunday rush. It's a wonderful little building on First Avenue and they have a gorgeous garden for the green fingered amongst us! Probably great in the Summer.

Review of Pub With No Name
29 Apr 08, 10:24
Very quirky
Do you know how hard it is to find this pub when you don't know where it is? Ask a passer by "Er, excuse me, can you tell me where the Pub with No Name is please?" to which the passer by answers "What's it called" and so it goes on. A very unassuming little spot, like someone's front room, in the Hanover area of Brighton. Very quirky and original.

Review of The Sussex Yeoman
23 Apr 08, 14:16
a really well-kept secret
The Sussex Yeoman is a really well-kept secret. Unless you visit on a Sunday and you'll realise that the whole of Brighton wants to get their sunday lunch here. It has very limited seating, but it's super cosy and the food is delicious for veggies and meat eaters. Their Sunday lunch is really, really tasty and you'll have a great time here.

Review of The Mash Tun

Great if you're a student...
...but not so great if you're not! It's loud, a bit grungey but strangely homely. I used to come in here an awful lot and have too much of a good time on Hooegarden. They still do this fine white beer, but I have matured considerably and left those heady drinking days behind me.

Review of Tn4 Public House

a mean moscow mule
This venue has just got the best cocktail selection. They do a mean moscow mule, which means you can sink a few more than you'd like to in the summer sun in their sunken beer garden. There aren't too many buzzy bars in Sunny Tunny, but this is one that I'd always go back to.

Gorgeous Sunday Roasts
This is a really beautiful little pub tucked away in the middle of Sussex. You really do need to drive to get to this pub, but it's well worth it...just try to get out of the driving so you can enjoy a tipple. We came here on a misty Sunday, and the chilly air added to the wonderful sirene atmosphere. The pub sit's next to a little stream that trickles along side the car park. This is probably a wonderful spot in the summer.

Review of Biscuit Factory
21 Apr 08, 18:29
A nice little watering hole!
The Biscuit Factory is a rather nice little watering hole. I like the interior, which feels ever so "Victoriana". The bar's in the middle of the pub, which you can walk 360 degrees around, and the way it's been decorated makes you think that Jack the Ripper or Oliver Twist will burst in through the doors any minute. A great atmosphere.

Review of Hove Park
21 Apr 08, 18:15
a good mix of plants, flowers, grass, trees
Hove Park's great to run around in a circuit. It's got a good mix of plants, flowers, grass, trees and people. Oooh, not forgetting the now defunct and rusting miniature railway that used to carry a full sized human being who would sit on the tiny vehicle and drive it around the 25 metre track.

Review of The Victoria

Always an experience...
This pub is always an experience. I think that it's just a straight forward pub, no frills, decent prices and they do a lovely jacket potato at lunchtime! There's always seating inside and it's a whole heap less scary than the pub on the other side of the level crossing.

Review of Grand Central
16 Apr 08, 18:29
Not bad considering Hove's station pub
Not bad considering Hove's station pub - which is almost a chore to go in. The Grand Central is actually a half decent pub considering it's so close to the train station. It's an easy meeting point for newcomers to the beautiful city of Brighton, and they do have a yard which is open in the summer for drinking.

Review of Caxton Arms

A nice cosy pub
A nice cosy pub, located close to Brighton Station, but well hidden from passing trade. Always busy (the bar's pretty small), but there's a sunken garden out the back which accomodates the Friday night surge of drinkers.

Review of Park View

Park side pints - what more could you want?
Park side pints - what more could you want? This pub was the venue for my pub quiz/rounders birthday party last week. It was a Saturday day time and the venue gave me the entire ground floor to take over and run a brilliant pub quiz (run by Brighton's Pub Quizmeister Frank Ramsey). The food's great, they do absolutely delish roasts and in the summer the bbq's on fire and the atmosphere's completely chilled. My only complaint is that it's not closer to my house..do you think they'd do anything about that?

Review of Sussex Cricketer
16 Apr 08, 17:29
Perfect for a pint at the fireworks
I wouldn't ordinarily go here, but after a lovely evening at the Sussex Cricket Club fireworks event I snuck in for a cheeky pint of cider. It was a wintery November evening, the fire was roaring, and the bar was busy, but the atmosphere was great and I imagine they trade fantastically well.

Review of The Great Eastern
16 Apr 08, 14:35
Almost the perfect pub
It's Sunday, you're a bit hungover. You just want a good honest pint in a cosy pub, perhaps a game of cards and a packet of crisps too. Well The Great Eastern's the perfect place to do this. The toilets let this place down, but hey, we don't go to pubs to pee now do we? Check out the fantastic characters who linger in the pub on Sundays - it's great people watching. Beer goggles not included.

Review of The Station
16 Apr 08, 14:32
Lots of potential...
But it just doesn't maximise on it. Just because a pub's next to the station, it doesn't mean that everyone will drink in it. Just the people who get off the long commute back from London who are dying for a beer. It's a shame as there's not many drinking establishments close by, but come on, give it a bit more atmosphere and step up your game to give Hove Station a pub to be proud of!

Review of Koba Public House
16 Apr 08, 13:47
They know their cocktails
I like Koba. They know their cocktails, and have a great little space to party - formerly the members bar. It's a shame it's stuck next to Waitrose on Western Road, but it's nice to take the girls to when they're down from London.

Review of The Forager

Nice for a local
This is probably the closest pub to my house, pretty nice for a local at that too. Conveniently on the way home from doing the Tesco shop which is always good to recouperate from carrying the shopping over a nice glass of organic pinot noir. Excellent wine list, lovely service, tasty local food. It's more restaurant than pub prices so we don't eat in there as often as we'd like to (about £15 for a main). Their main competitor is the Ginger Pig on Hove Street, and I think that their food keeps their game up for sure. I think they need to sort out the lighting in there a bit which makes the space feel cold and a bit static.
