Review of Sausage and Mash Cafe

A classic
I love the art deco feel this place has. And the sausages can't be beat. You mix and match a selection of sausages, three types of mash and three kinds of gravy. I'm not sure if sitting outside on Essex Road might be taking our newfound continental culture a bit far - much better indoors, as long as you like your cafes to have a busy, buzzy vibe.

Review of The Crown

The ideal local
On sleepy, leafy Cloudesley Road (if you ignore the odd moped-riding young hoodlum), this is how pubs are supposed to be. It has Fullers' usual range (Honeydew, mmm) and decent enough food, though as you'd expect for Angel it's hardly a bargain. There are proper dining tables and armchairs by the fire, intricate ceiling and a fantastic old wooden bar. Under new management of late (Glynn went to the Fox near Old Street - another great pub) and probably facing stiff competition from the refurbed Albion further down the road, but still a solid, reliable local.

Review of Isarn
22 Jul 07, 17:16
Stylish and reasonable
Isarn is well-priced for an Upper street eatery, and the food is so tasty and well presented that it certainly doesn't feel cheap. The red prawn curry could have more prawns, and the chicken and mango was a bit dry, but the spring rolls were great and the black rice and mango desert was amazing. Still not sure whether having the house red as chilled only is an attempt to disguise questionable quality but it went down well nonetheless.

Review of 171 Hair and Beauty

A relaxing experience
I hate having my hair cut, but this made the whole thing much less stressful by playing Thom Yorke, not keeping me waiting for a second, and not making forced, meaningless banter. They took my booking on the day (sunday, open til 6) and £27 for a haircut on upper street isn't bad.
