Review of The Ultimate Burger
17 Oct 07, 16:33
A pretty big boast, for quite a large burger.
The 'Ultimate Burger', really, can it be, can it be the ultimate?
Ultimate burger is another in the growing list of burger venues springing up across the capital. Where it mostly differs, from the outside, is in the boastful name 'Ultimate'. Fine burgers, are indeed fine, and at a streach gourmet burgers may just be gourmet, but are ultimate's really ultimate.
I went for a mushroom and blue cheese topping for my burger, and it was quite good. The meat was meaty and beefy with a slight char on the outside and came cooked through as standard. The mushrooms too were quite nice. The salady bits were salsdy bits, all very as expected so far. Unfortunatly the overfidding flavour was that of a sweet tomato chutnety which in future i would scrape off. I ordered all this with a side of coleslaw and a diet coke from a glass bottle.
The whole thing was quite good, and I'll probably good again, it is just around the corner, but i couldn't help feeling it wasn't the ultimate.
Oh and the bench seat I was on was to squishy, and it was too low, made me feel like a child just peaking over the adults table.

24 hour dining
The original in St John's street and the new version in hampstead basically offer the same package. Namely post pub/club grub and milkshakes.
The milkshakes have a series of ridiculous invented names but basically are just soft scoop ice cream with choccy bars blended into them. Food wise, avoid everything except the over priced burgers, and even those arent that good.
Ultimatly expensive, and for rich kids, but if you want a milkshake at 4 am on a tuesday, this is the place to go.

Review of Carluccios

Somewhat dissapointing
I went on a Sunday, which, in hindsight, was a mistake. The place was really packed, but not in a buzzy kind of way, more just stressful for all concerned.
Now don't get me wrong, as a child i loved going to restaurants, and i think a place like carluccio's should have children involved, but the number of prams was making it difficult for everyone to move around, perhaps a few fewer tables would make life easier. On that note, there were so many tables that the waitress knocked over out water bottle when she went to bend over the table next to us. It felt there was no room to breathe.
The menu was on the dull side. I had soem dried pasta cooked to death in a bland tomato eggy sauce, very forgettable, and my companion had a lasagne. It would have been better if we'd made both our dishes at home.

A bit dissapointing
This branch of the growing noodle bar chain always manages to dissapoint on every visit.
I heave tended to order from the noodle bar menu, where one selects a type of noodle, a broth, and a topping, yet they always arrive missmatched, and with missing parts.
Avoid to avoid dissapointment, i certainly won't be back.
