Superbly esoteric shop
Looking for a different present for my girlfriend i wandered into this wonderful old shop slap bang at the bottom of Gower Street.
The staff were very helpful, although, as one unaccostomed to umbrella purchasing i was a little taken aback by the prices. However i have since found that the joy a unique and fun umbrella far outweighs the cost.
Great staff, wonderful shop, and every true lady or gent really should have a proper umbrella.

Go for the 'Hard Milkshakes'
The menu of the this bar cum burger place is impressivly long, and flicking through you quickly realise that its mostly booze.
And what booze it is, the food is good, with big meaty burgers from a variety of animals, and good chips, but for me, the drinks shine.
The hard milkshakes, filled with yummy alcohol are a particular highlight, as is the root beer.

The most wonderful cakes.
I've loved this place since it first opened, before everyone got to know it was there. Back then the staff had a little more time on their hands, and would come and sit on the little low sofa's and chairs with you to explain the plethora of teas and cakes.
Now adays its a little busier, but no less wonderful. The staff will still spend the time explaining all of the cakes to you, and you'll need them to the first time.
When you do choose, it'll be hard as all the cakes look so nice, you wont be dissapointed, and may even need to start again at the begining as they are just so tempting.

Cheap
It is cheap, but the menu never changes, and i'm bored of it now. Its also at the crossroads of Farringdon and Roseberry Av, a bit of a no mans land really, right by a massive sorting office. And i saw a mouse run across the dining room floor last time.

Review of Subway

Subway is rubbish
Eat Fresh, made in front fo you! Just the things almost every humble sandwich shop all across the UK have been doing for ever. And making the sandwiches taste better too boot.
I dont want a foot of sandwich which tastes of gerkins and is made of such soft bread that it collapses befor i take it out the bag. Subway is rubbish and must be avoided.
Having said that, I do like the self service soft drinks.

24 hour dining
The original in St John's street and the new version in hampstead basically offer the same package. Namely post pub/club grub and milkshakes.
The milkshakes have a series of ridiculous invented names but basically are just soft scoop ice cream with choccy bars blended into them. Food wise, avoid everything except the over priced burgers, and even those arent that good.
Ultimatly expensive, and for rich kids, but if you want a milkshake at 4 am on a tuesday, this is the place to go.

The Best
Quite simply the world's greatest donuts ever. The classic original glazed is the one for me, hot though, either very fresh from the machine or nuked for 8 seconds in the microwave, um.

B52's
Really big B52's for £4, good value! Many different rooms, good music and a very very large car park out the back, seriously massive, 2 football pitches at least.

Review of Carluccios

Somewhat dissapointing
I went on a Sunday, which, in hindsight, was a mistake. The place was really packed, but not in a buzzy kind of way, more just stressful for all concerned.
Now don't get me wrong, as a child i loved going to restaurants, and i think a place like carluccio's should have children involved, but the number of prams was making it difficult for everyone to move around, perhaps a few fewer tables would make life easier. On that note, there were so many tables that the waitress knocked over out water bottle when she went to bend over the table next to us. It felt there was no room to breathe.
The menu was on the dull side. I had soem dried pasta cooked to death in a bland tomato eggy sauce, very forgettable, and my companion had a lasagne. It would have been better if we'd made both our dishes at home.

Absinthe heaven
If you're looking for an unusual and ecclectic range of spirits, beat a path to Jerry's door.
With a vast selection of vodkas, rums and wines, absinthe where Jerry's really wins for me. With a selection ranging from the bog standard La Fee through the wild and wacky bottles to the 89.9% alcohol Hapsberg Special Reserve, Jerry's is the best place for your absinthe needs.
