Review of Nouvion Nail & Beauty Salon

New view on salons!
I always thought a beauty salon was a place I could go to chill out, relax and have some "me time". Not after going to Nouvion! The place is set in a beautiful old station house, but as soon as I walked in, I felt awkward and uncomfortable. The staff, instead of making me feel relaxed and welcome, spent more time concentrating on their own "beauty". They were constantly playing about with their hair and make up, loking at themselves in the mirror during treatments and generally making me feel "inferior". I felt like I was being "preached to" about skincare and nail care and was made to feel "not good enough" by their standards. They also try the hard sell, for exampe, I had a manicure and was almost forced into buying the rest of the polish sh had used. At an over-inflated price too, I might add! Not recommended, unless you are a perfect size 0 model!

Review of Cloud 23 - Hilton Skybar

In the Beaten Tower?
If you want views over the "city skyscape" then I'd recommend the Manchester Eye. The views are less boring from there and there is more chance of getting a drink too! Cloud 23 is not a disappointment as such, after all I was half expecting a pretentious, over-hyped place full of guest-listers and weekend millionaires. If this place is so exclusive, why is there a queue of Burberry clad "wannabe's" waiting to take the 15 second lift ride to a 15 minute wait for drinks and/or a seat. No wonder they placed this bar on the 23rd floor... it has to be up there to cope with prices so high! Basically you get what you imagine. Crappy attitudy staff, chavs, wannabe WAG's and "plastic fantastics". Seriously, I'd rather walk to the off licence with glass in my Manolo Blahniks.

Review of Jowata

Watta place!
Deansgate, Manchester. The home of good shops, great bars, fine food. And Jowatta! How this place survives or even exists is beyond comprehension. The place is cold and damp... much the same could be said about the food too. The owner/manager/waitress/bar staff/cleaner (basically she is the only member of staff I've ever seen in there) is rude, challenging and actually quite aggressive. I'm a firm believer that if you don't get the service you are expecting, you should complain. However, I'd recommend anything but complaining in Jowatta. You're likely to get attacked. As a bare minimum, you'll be sworn at! If you insist on sampling the "authentic African cuisine", their words not mine, then you'd better be prepared for a battle of wits, a cold welcoming and to be disappointed. Don't forget the 12.5% service (what service?) charge and the "cash only" policy. Best time to go? Sunday or Monday. It's closed!
