Holborn

John W. says:
...or an honest mistake? I bought a Giant SCR2 for £545 from the Holborn store and believed the sales guy when he said that prices were going to go up in August for the first time in history due to high commodity prices. I bought the bike and maybe I was naive but I definietly felt aggrieved when I went in the shop today to see it cut to £445 barely over a week after I made the purchase.
Am I just stupid or am I right to expect more honesty?

Cycle Surgery had my money for 10 weeks before I had my light. No apology. No nothing. Beware! They sent an incomplete kit and it took 10 weeks to finish the order. Almost no email replys.

As a somewhat specialist consumer (single speed converted track bikes), normal stores just don't appeal to me. There's something about fluorescent yellow jackets and gears that drives me away as quick as my single gear will carry me (quite fast, if you're counting).
However, on the way to my place of employment in Soho I had the misfortune of getting a flat tyre. Given that they were on my way I thought it best to stop off and get a fix.
The staff were quite helpful and the repairs were very competitively priced - and the up-sell of a puncture-proof inner tube was well worth the investment. They even had a few solitary single speeds in the store--although their primary trade was clearly of the commuter variety.
Great for all your "normal" bicycling needs.

I know next to nothing about bikes, but owned an old one I wanted to renovate. The staff at cycle surgery were brilliant, not at all salesy, and explained everything clearly without being patronising. I went a second time on a Saturday when it was completely hectic, but the bloke serving me still took his time to answer all my questions properly. You can tell they encounter plenty of people like me every day. Best thing though - I needed a specific nut, so they rummaged around their workshop and gave me it for free! Woo hoo.
Only minor gripe - they don't have many cheap, entry-level bikes, presumably on the basis that any bike cheaper than around 200 quid is a false economy. But if that's what you want, Argos is down the road.

Great bike shop, tonnes of bikes at this large shop, looks great and the staff are very helpful when I have need to buy replacement parts here. I mainly use the branch on Holloway Road but this is on my route to work and has been very handy when I can't usually make the opening hours. It's big with a great range of bikes if your looking to buy and I would trust the staff here. Quite good website but would buy else where if ordering online for delivery as it is not the cheapest. If I need advice or parts on the same day I like to use this or my local shop. Doesn't get much better.
