DELICIOUS!

5*

Alan F. says:

This place gets an A+ for food and service. The atmosphere was a bit slow (it was raining on a Tuesday afternoon, so I guess that's not unexpected).

Friendly staff was very kind and helpful. I took a really long time to decide what I wanted to order (it all looked so tasty) and they walked me through the menu and made useful suggestions. Also, I am allergic to tomatoes so they were very kind and brought out a list of which dishes and what they contained so I could see which ones didn't have tomatoes.

The hummus was perfectly creamy and the bread perfectly fluffy. I had the Vegetable Salad (hold the tomatoes) with Feta Cheese on top. It was amazing. I ended up going back for dinner the next day so I could share the experience with my girlfriend.

Will definitely be back...again and again and again.

healthy quick eats

2*

Lizzie G. says:

I love hummus, and have even attempted to make my own but this place makes the best. The thing I don't like about it is that it could be so much more. The place is small, the selection not varied enough and the food over priced. It’s worth it for a one off lunch or something but I came out full but unsatisfied. Maybe you'll be different. They do do a loyalty card, which is good, but after my 3rd bowl, I felt so fed up with it that I threw it away.

Tasty tasty veg (with meat)

4*

Ross B. says:

I always liked the idea of this place but was never sure if I'd like the reality (would chickpeas be too bland to base a meal around!?!?!) - having now been I can happily say that the reality is indeed good!

A big bowl of humus with meat in the middle is a tasty and filling meal; I've seen people complain about prices but it all seemed good to me. I was also really impressed with the pitta breads (totally unlike any pitta I have had before) and salads (fresh, crispy and delicious).

A very cool place for lunch and certainly somewhere to go when you are fancying a change from your standard lunch fair.

Expensive but unique

3*

Myles A. says:

As specialist food outlets go a whole restaurant/cafe dedicated to hummus is pretty unique. And they do it well serving tasty fresh hummus with warm pita and a range of other accompaniments including meatballs, kidney beans, extra chickpea (really?!) and some nice chilli & lemon sources.

The only issue is the price. At £5.50 for a decent size portion it doesn't stack up in terms of value. Let’s be honest, hummus & bread has got to be one of the cheapest meals known to man, especially when made on a large scale, so i feel robbed at getting £4 back from a tenner. I'd rather go over the road to ITSU and get a big sushi-box - much fresher and more exotic than mushed up chickpeas.

Always good

5*

Will R. says:

Works a treat for a hangover, always packed, worth getting a tub to take away, the drinks are good, the service fast and friendly, the ideal lunchtime stop, but I like going mid-afternoon for a more peaceful chickpea fix. They apparently leave out the pea skins, and use less tahina, after years of experimenting. I like the history of the place too, and in an area that isn't overly dominated by chains, this place still stands out as a quirky original. And while copycat joints are popping up, I always find myself returning here to 'give peas a chance'.

Not Just Hummus

5*

Dylan W. says:

I went into this place thinking that it would be just a glorified kebab shop. Boy, I COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG! The place was slick, clean, very modern. The food was inspired and quite tasty. The hummus was very smooth. I usually prefer a bit more texture but the staff informed me that they have a "low-fat" version of the hummus with less tahini and thus more texture. I tried it and I think I've now found my new favourite restaurant. Seriously. Good healthy food for cheap in central London? I would have thought it impossible. Oh, and the service is kick-ass as well. Well done Hummus Brothers.

humungus hummus

Clive J. says:

Great idea – bowls lined with a generous smear of hummus, filled with the topping of your choice; great spot – middle of Soho; great layout – shared tables refectory style; great leveller – veggies, carnivores: everyone loves hummus; great drinks – exotic tissanes, vegetable juices etc.; great back story – student pals looking for healthy fast food had great idea ojne drunken night, blah, blah; great advertising possibilities – funny photographs of owners wearing oversized middle eastern style moustaches; great future – already opened 2nd branch in Southampton Row and will probably achieve National domination by 2017 and sell out to Macdonalds (a la Prêt a Manger)

Give chickpea a chance?

2*

Elaine C. says:

I have heard about this place from a few of my friends but i have never tried. I decided to go there and thought I should check it out.

I ordered a Hummus with chicken filling.... The chicken was good, but the hummus was just... just not nice. It was a bit too grainy, has a bit of a smokey flavour, slightly off smell to it. It was a shame cos I was expecting a very nice hummus... especially when the main dishes are based on hummus...

It is quite expensive for what its worth, and I certainly dont think its worth the money.... I could pay the same amount anywhere else and get a much yummier, bigger portion in Soho.

Staffs are very friendly indeed, very young, and helpful. They also give u a "Give Chickpea a chance" badge and Buy-9(12)-get-1 small (big) hummus card when you pay... Kinda like get your 10th Hummus free that kinda stuff...

Shame that I dont think i will ever use that card/voucher or what ever they call it.

Chick-chick-chick-chick-chichpeas...

4*

Ester G. says:

I love hummus: unctuous, grainy, smooth - however it's made, I could happily live on this sublime garlic, oil and chickpea paste forever (though, as few people would want to sit too close, it might be an unhappy existence). Clearly a similar level of obsession drove two students to come up with this deliciously simple idea: Just. Serve. Hummus. Although the type of venture that could only ever succeed in the faddy, concept-courting capital, it really does work. As for the menu, there - surprisingly enough - isn't much to say. Have your hummus neat, with pitta, or jazzed up with a topping like mushrooms, or chickpeas. Go there, even if it's just to see I'm not taking the mickey. We've come a long way since Lyon's tearooms.
