One of the best Indian restaurants in London !

5*

Lee G. says:

The Parveen, without a doubt is one of the best Indian restaurants in London, I have eaten at the Parveen for many years now and felt I need to express my appreciation. The restaurant recently moved upstairs from their former situation downstairs, additional it is heartbreaking to see as there is another characterless bistro downstairs unlike the warm and friendly Parveen. The management and staff are very warm and welcoming and hardworking especially now they need to run up and down the stairs, but without a doubt still pulling in a excellent crowed and producing first class food that is truly tasty and of excellence, the service is great and I believe that the 20 years they have been open, They can return downstairs someday and continue a further 20 years.

The best vindaloo in London

3*

Aldo M. says:

Admittedly, I don't know much about Indian food. However, I know what I like, and I like Sarovar. A friend took me here a few years ago and now it's my go-to place for Indian fare. I usually get the vindaloo, and it is excellent. The atmosphere is not bad, and you get a lot of food for the money. Very good food at a fair price.

Tasty, but not the best

3*

Nat R. says:

Rather bizarrely, we decided to go and have a curry on a Tuesday night. So you can probably guess that the place was not exactly packed. Nevertheless, they thought it would be a good idea to park us outside on the pavement, to make it look like they were doing a roaring trade. Cunning, eh? Well, only if you think people will be drawn in by shivering customers with icicles hanging off their noses.

To be fair, the food itself was excellent. The mango chutney was the most tangy I have had, and the mushroom paneer was deliciously creamy. However, the portion sizes were much smaller than we greedy Westerners have come to expect, so I would recommend that you order a starter and a few sides. I didn't, and ended up raiding Sainsbury's on the way home. The prices were very reasonable - £10 for poppadoms and a main course, but you might have to spend a bit more if you want to avoid the tummy rumbles.

Good but not great

3*

Rik L. says:

I visited the Parveen Tandoori, mainly based on these reviews and recommendations. My thinking was that there was a great curry house in Angel that I haven't been to yet, so the only thing to do would be to go round and check it out. Which is exactly what I did.

Getting sat outside when it was getting cold wasn't the perfect start, but the free poppadoms soon quietened my moaning. They were crisp, nicely cooked and tasted good, and the accompanying sauces were tasty too.

After picking my choice of curry (chicken Sag), rice (pilau) and beer (Tiger), we waited at our now rather chilly outside table. When the food eventually came, it was good, not great, but still good. It tasted fine - the curry was flavourful but the rice was slightly dry. However the portions was slightly smaller than I expected, which didn't quite satisfy my hunger, so maybe it would be worth getting side dishes.

The Parveen is a good Indian, but it's definitely not the best. There are a couple of curry houses nearby which are just as good and if not better.

My favourite Indian restaurant

5*

Pandora G. says:

The Parveen was one of the first restaurants to open in the Angel, and to this day is still going strong. The food isn't cheap, but is consistently brilliant. There are now loads of other Inidan restaurants in the area but none are as good as the Parveen.

Fine Indian Dining

5*

Daniel B. says:

The Parveen is easily my favourite Indian in Angel, and probably the best I have eaten in London since moving down.

The Rogan Josh is how it should be, full of frsh tomatoes, and actually quite hot, not mild like many places seem to make it. The staff are always friendly and treat their regulars well, and while the prices aren't exactly cheap, there is definitely a sense that you have got what you paid for when you leave.

Highly recommend to all in the area and beyond.

Tasty Indian food

4*

Nimisha B. says:

The food served in this resturant is absolutely mouth watering. Once you have a taste you will want more. The resturant is located quite far from where i stay, however, its also worth travelling down to dine here. The atmosphere is not all that and the seating does seem to be a little tight, but the amazing curies surely make up for all that without fail.

Islington gem

4*

Sarah F. says:

I've been to the Parveen quite a few times and only once had a bad experience, they seemed to have forgotten our order so it took a long time. The food is always great though and the service is usually very good. The seating is a little tight as they have packed in so many tables but on the plus side I've rarely waited for a table or had to book, even on a Saturday night. I totally agree with Holly J, if you're hungry in Islington, head to the Parveen.

The best Indian restaurant in the world

5*

Holly J. says:

The Parveen is widely viewed among my friends and family as the best Indian restaurant going. A good friend of mine spent 2 months in India and believes that she ate nothing that surpassed the Parveen. You must try the chicken tikka masala, the north indian garlic chilli chicken and the lamb rogan josh. However, over the years the Parveen's prices have crept up, and the atmosphere isn't fantastic...but none of this matters when you have tasted the food. The owner of the restaurant is a very friendly man, who gets to know his customers and provides an excellent service. Forget the newer and cheaper Indian restaurants that keep springing up in Angel, none of them are even nearly as good as the Parveen!
