Wine and dine in peace and quiet

4*

Kate G. says:

I highly recommend the Pipe of Port as somewhere to eat and drink in Southend, away from the hustle and bustle of the chain restaurants. It has a quiet atmosphere and the feel of a real wine cellar with sawdust on the floor and barrels behind the bar. It offers wonderful homemade food with to-die-for deserts! Also, being someone who is usually the designated driver, I can also recommend the homemade lemonade so none of those gassy branded soft drinks. Situated just off Southend High Street, opposite Churchill’s, (just a doorway leading downstairs) it’s not obvious that the restaurant is there but once you have been, you won’t forgot it!

You might miss it

4*

Tony A. says:

This is a brilliant tucked away place to go. it is in the centre of Southend High Street and really on the outside is just a door. But it is tucked away down stairs and opens up. You can have a really good meal in there, served by people who have worked there for years and know the menu inside out. The best part is the PORT. Big barrels of the stuff behind the bar. you have to try it.

Good Food and Wine

3*

Tara S. says:

Situated right in Southend High Street, this is a perfect quiet restaurant,to visit with your friends and that special someone. My first choice of restaurant for a good meal and wine out. There is a good selection of food and nice wines, I can personally recommend the Chicken and Chestnut Pies with a lovely cold glass of Mosel. If you love wine you can join their wine club and they have many events throughout the year for you to sample some of these. You pay for what you get so the prices can be a bit on the expensive side on menus and wines but still within most peoples budgets for a nice restaurant.
