<![CDATA[Greater London - Camden - Bloomsbury - Travel and Transportation - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en The Generator - the name describes the noise level... http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/bloomsbury/hostels/the-generator-wc1h9se.html#r56677 When I moved to London I booked a few nights in the Generator (6 bed female dorm) to find a flat.

When I arrived I was quite surprised because the place looked all funky and fun - but by the time I reached the room the excitement was gone. It was small and didnt even have a table or chairs - instead - just a riddiculous sink that nobody ever used.

The floor was full of crums, the matress looked fucked, but at least the sheets seemed to be clean.

The showers and loo were directly opposite or room - good and bad. Everytime the door fell shut you'd be awake because you just cant shut ANY door silently.

The showers itself were full of mould and there was no space for undressing: If you undressed yourself in front of the shower, anyone can come in and see you naked - boys as well as girls and if you undress IN the shower your clothes will get all soaked.

If you stay there remember to bring your own lock, you cant leave anything in your room - it'll go walkies (like my oyster).

The hostel provides internet pcs at a very high price, you'll get that cheaper round the corner.

Location is very good and staff were friendly.

Big station http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/bloomsbury/underground-stations/kings-cross-underground-station-nw12ql.html#r31558 This must be Londons biggest stations with most train lines running through here. If you do not know where you are going, Kings Cross is a good place head to as trains go most places from here, they have a big board which is easy to read and the staff are helpful too.

Great Alternative http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/bloomsbury/underground-stations/euston-square-underground-station-nw12ba.html#r28754 This place is located smack bang in the middle of Euston and Kings Cross, which is great as the other stations are rammed at peak times and weekends, within 5 minutes you can be at Euston Square, where there's no queues or hassle.

More Trains Than Anywhere Else http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/bloomsbury/underground-stations/kings-cross-underground-station-nw12ql.html#r28746 This is Londons busiest tube terminal with 5 lines runnign through, sending you to all the footy grounds nearby as well as the tourist attractions.

uif you get lost in town then head here as there are lots of helpful staff in town, and chances are you're only a couple of minutes away from Kings Cross.

Avoid at Night http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/bloomsbury/underground-stations/kings-cross-underground-station-nw12ql.html#r27618 This services King Cross train station so it gets quite busy if you're heading this way at rush hour, particulary with the city folk of Holborn and the ITN lot from Grays Inn Road hammering down the road to get here.

Not the nicest place if you're hanging around at night, I'd avoid wandering around here after 11pm

a piece of brilliance! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/bloomsbury/mainline-stations/st-pancras-railway-station-nw12ql.html#r27478 The new Kings Cross St. Pancaras International is a delightful piece of architecture/engineering/design! The way they mix the old bits with the new bits, the way they've put it all together, and the way that it actually works as a railway station too is phenomenal! The only bad thing about it is that because most people are just here to catch a train they don't really stop to have a look around. Next time your train is delayed (and it will be - it is a train after all!) go have a wander and experience the place as more than just a collection of platforms - you'll be impressed!

Well worth the wait!! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/bloomsbury/mainline-stations/st-pancras-railway-station-nw12ql.html#r23899 It took millions of pounds and many years to build but the new St Pancras station is a stunning achievement. A strange thing to say but you've got to see it!!! It has been bought up to date with an array of shops, coffee houses and restaurants. It now offers direct links into France and therefore the place does have a cosmopolitan feel to it and getting a taxi can be hard especially in rush hour. The underground links are great though

Crazyness! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/bloomsbury/hostels/the-generator-wc1h9se.html#r3753 I agree with Holly J that The Generator was very hectic! I think it's 'look' also deserves a mention though: the lobby and bar resemble some kind of space ship all metal and weird-coloured lighting. It's hard to do it justice in words but it was really quite surreal! I was pretty overwhelmed when I came to stay here and I think only the most lively and easily adaptable traveler would enjoy staying at The Generator although it is almost a tourist attraction in itself!

The Generator has walking tours (run by the wonderful red t-shirted Free Tours) departing daily which my friends and I went on after purchasing our tube tickets from the hostel shop.

We also sampled the breakfast (which was included in our stay). This was all you can eat cereal and toast with tea, coffee or some seriously cheap-tasting squash!

The bar was too intimidating for me but seemed funky and lively.

Our room was a typical hostel room (bunk beds, v small). Luckily we had a loo right across the corridor but the showers were miles away. The showers were almost communal with very little privacy and a 99% chance of any clothing you took off in there getting soaked! Thus I decided to walk all the way from room to shower in just a skimpy towel: a fun experience when the cleaners were hovering!

The location of the Generator was pretty great: a few streets from a tube stop, fairly near King's Cross and right near this wonderful (and again quite surreal) open-air shopping centre. It was also only a short walk from the British museum.

I would recommend the Generator as a unique experience for a few night stay but not if you're feeling tired and boring!

Silly place to put the station http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/bloomsbury/underground-stations/euston-square-underground-station-nw12ba.html#r1740 Here's the thing - that tube line runs right under the front of Euston station. So why did they not build a station there? But I'm not ungrateful for my enforced 500m walk each morning. Station itself is small and very poorly laid out. People using the ticket machines stop others from getting into the station; barriers are placed in the only space they could fit into, but do not cope well with rush-hour traffic.
