I have struggled to find many places in Camden near my office that are nice enough to use for business lunches - this place is the only one I'd actually recommend.

Great food - mix of English gastro and contemporary European is about right for what they offer - and the prices are what you'd expect, certainly not overblown. Never been rammed at midweek lunch but I'd still advise you booking, otherwise if turned away you'll be pushed to find anywhere as nice to eat locally.

Nicely attentive but not fussing service, like the place's look and overall atmosphere. I've always been impressed though it is understated in its style and unpretentious.

The relatively speedy service, reasonably priced drinks and good but not intrusive music are not worth the inevitable depression caused by looking at a hundred odd young people enjoying themselves. It's like a strange, expensive students Union. Come here for lunch, or a mid afternoon pint.

Its got a beer garden, roof terrace, good food, stylish bar staff, and DJ and band nights which are always free. The only major downside is that with all this in one place, in one of the busiest parts of Camden, it gets stupidly busy. If you want to get a spot on the roof terrace in the Summer,for example, you need to get like a German with a beach towel.

It's also a noted celebrity hangout for some of the North London famous, who can be found kicking back in the outdoor area with a Malboro Light, disguised as any other young urbanite having a pint. Next time you see that guy in a parka who looks vaguely familiar...look again!

However not many people would call me skinny, I might like a bit of indie music but i'm certainly not a kid. Having said all that I love this place. It's always good lively, good fun and the beer garden is a sure fire winner if your looking for a party venue.

The Lock Tavern attracts a trendy but not pretentious crowd, and by the end of the night everyone is dancing to the funk, soul and indie music provided by the DJ upstairs. The only hint of try-hard cool is the projections shown on the exposed brick walls...but after a few drinks this just adds to the atmosphere. The Lock Tavern is also worth a visit during the week, when it is a bar with a nice ambience. Oh, and get there early at the weekend - they start charging for entry later on in the evening.
