<![CDATA[Greater London - Camden - Covent Garden - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Bars - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en No diner just dinner http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/bars/roadhouse-wc2e8be.html#r56543 I went this place as it had labelled itself as an American Diner. I was thinking 'The Diner' in Old Street or even 'Ed's Diner' but no such luck. This is definitely a bar and not a restaurant. The vegetarian options are limited and the food, even though it's tasty isn't that great value for money.

As a bar I'm sure it's fine, a little tacky but that's kind of what you expect from a American restaurant in the Covent Garden area.

This is a place to go if you're not a local/are really hungry/are too lazy to walk a little further to a better place etc...

Lovevly bar with good cocktails http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/bars/freud-wc2h8jl.html#r53247 Lovely cosy bar. If you can avoid the smelly toilets it is a great experience! Very very good cocktails. A bit small perhaps for Friday nights. Nice bar tender too ;)

Shockingly rude bar staff and terrible atmophere http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/bars/the-corner-store-wc2e7bn.html#r52535 The staff at this pub should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

I went there last night with a group of 40 people (we had booked an area and arranged it with the pub beforehand). The group consisted of a range of ages from 20 to 60+. All of us bought drinks (as you do in pubs) and many of us bought food.

After we had been at the pub for a short while one of our group walked out having been very rudely spoken to by the manager. She was an older lady who had opted for a cup of tea, and been told that food must be bought and that this wasn't a place for people like her (the manager actually banged her fist on the table while imparting this information).

A few of us, who had arranged to drink at this pub, approached the manager to find out what was wrong. We were told that our group did not "fit in the with image of the pub" that she was trying to create. She told us "people are standing up at the bar and laughing at you."

She insisted we should buy more food, though there were plenty of groups in there who were just drinking.

She also said that if we wanted to come back she would find us a space downstairs out of the way.

Her staff were very rude, and at times mean (failing to clean up after accidentally spilling a drink on one of our group and then returning to the bar to laugh about it with the rest of the staff).

We all spent money in her pub. We were all polite to the staff and well behaved.

It amazes me how a pub like this, in the heart of a city that is famed for its diversity, can be so prejudiced. I think the manager and her staff should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves, and hope this review helps them to see changes need to be made in their attitude.

Needless to say we will not be returning.

Party Perfect http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/bars/the-long-acre-wc2e9lh.html#r52068 The Longacre is just outside Leicester Square Tube and I booked an area here to start off my birthday celebrations last week. The food was good, although we only shared a selection of nibbles and mostly drank. They didn't have the biggest selection of cocktails but everything was fairly priced and the service was excellent. Booking an area was easy and we got everything that we asked for. The downstairs bar was really lively on Saturday night, and I hadn't even known it was there-with nice quiet booths off the dancefloor. I was pleasantly surprised!!

If you're in the area (and like pickles) http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/bars/concrete-se18xx.html#r44042 Small, quite expensive russian bar next door to the Hayward Gallery.

Not one for beer drinkers (only 1 lager option plus guinness and cider). Food is fine if you like pickles and hotpot, but fine for one or two drinks if you're passing through.

DJ on Saturdays, quietish in the week as it's a bit hidden from the main South Bank strip.

No thanks http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/bars/yatess-wine-lodge-wc2h7la.html#r43193 There are so many nice places to go around the West End…so why go to Yates. Well if you want a cheapy lunch and can’t be bothered to go too far then its ok. The food isnt great, but they do replace it when you complain (last time I went my food was not cooked…hmmm!). Its also a bit dark and gloomy!

If you want to go somewhere that is a magnet for stag parties, groups of men visiting the Big Smoke or tourists then this is the pub to go to!

Not for me though thanks!

The food is so slow, was so unimpressed.. sorry if it has changed, but i've had several cases that we order at 1.10 and food hasnt even arrived by 2!

Ok for a drink I guess...

Leicester Square deserves SO much better!!

Try Pitcher&Piano round the corner!!

Hole! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/bars/yatess-wine-lodge-wc2h7la.html#r42881 I’m not really a fan of Yates, by day it’s ok although does tend to attract stag parties and groups of men visiting London. It’s also really dark in most of the pub, but ok if you sit at the front. The food isn’t great, but it’s cheap and when you do complain they are quick to replace your meal. Service is fairly slow, so if you are popping in at lunch make sure you ask how fast the kitchen is going. By night it is a bit of a tourist haven and there are a few odd bods in there…I don’t really like it as there are often men alone, which I find weird and a bit pervy. When it’s my choice I never suggest going here... there are so many good bars in the area there is just no point!
