<![CDATA[Greater London - Camden - Covent Garden - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Italian Restaurants - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Lovely gnocchi http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/italian-restaurants/carluccios-wc2e9bh.html#r55590 This branch of the Italian chain is one of the newest and is spread over two floors in a fab Georgian building. Downstairs they have room for a delicatessen as well as the restaurant. And I think you can hire out the space on the first floor for private dinning / parties.

Menu and prices are the same here as other branches across the country - it just is a lovely venue. Good selection of pastas, risottos, meat and fish. Love the gamberoni (grilled king prawns) and the gnocchi. Also check out the specials, including the wines.

Quality Italian http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/italian-restaurants/bertorellis-of-covent-garden-wc2e9da.html#r53444 Decent Italian a stones throw away from the Opera House and the heaving masses in Covent Garden.

Probably the darkest branch of the Bertorelli's chain and the decor is in need of a little updating - the Charlotte Street and Frith Street branches are brighter and lighter. But it is definitely cosier and more intimate here.

Food is good quality Italian with a range of fish, meat and pasta dishes on offer. It also has daily specials. Good flavours - especially the linguine vongole (if you like clams). Service is good - attentive but not overwhelming.

Save some room for dessert or at least coffee, both of which are good.

Restaurant closed http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/italian-restaurants/the-neal-street-restaurant-wc2h9qw.html#r50107 interesting to read suzy g's review. What was the Neal Street restaurant is now a branch of American Apparel, so maybe she got confused and ate a very delicious pair of overpriced, brightly coloured pants?

Good riverside stop-off http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/italian-restaurants/strada-se18xx.html#r49861 If you've been to a Strada before, you know the score, but it's fairly generic Italian food, but the food and decor are a level up from the the usual places. This branch gets extra points for being within garlic bread throwing distance of the Thames, and the staff were very efficient without being annoying. Also they sell Grand Riserva Peroni, which is nearly 6%, so gives Stella a run for it's money whilst actually tasting nice. If you're heading to the Festival Hall or idly twatting around by the Thames, worth it for a reasonably priced filling meal. (And some strong booze, did I mention that???)

Worst night ever/ worst restaurant ever http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/italian-restaurants/rossopomodoro-covent-garden-wc2h9ep.html#r47257 *NO STARS *

Please don't make the mistake of booking this restaurant or of walking in through the door. Our night was truly terrible and ruined beyond belief. The waiters were not attentive and offered us excuse upon excuse and the manager was something else. He argued and told us it was our fault we waited nearly 2 hours for starters!!

I had gone in and booked a table for 8:30pm for my friends hen night, I booked 16 places and exactly 16 turned up -no surprises there then for the restaurant. When I first complained about the food after only part of our group had received their starters, I was told that we had all ordered a starter each and that you are not meant to?? (we were not told this when we ordered, or told that it would be a problem!!).

I wish I could say that this was the worst of it, however it got significantly worse and the manager then resorted to lying to us as a means of trying to shut us up. At no point did we recieve an apology for the horrendous service or an explanation as to why. As the night went on, our table was more and more avoided by the staff when all we wanted was something to eat!!

When after a lot of shouting and complaining by a number of us, our meals turned up, I wish they hadn't in actual fact as they were disgusting. Probably the worst meal out of 16 was a salad that was put down in front of the person next to me, which quite frankly looked revolting (and smelt revolting). A plate of iceburg lettuce, 1 tomato, some green beans (why?), and then the waiter opened a jar of tuna in front of us and tipped it out over the top!! Telling us it was fresh? How?

The pizzas and the pastas ranged from bland to salty and the muchrooms on the pizza were the slimy sort out of a tin (again, truly disgusting). We eventually bartered the manager down in price by threatening to get up and walk out and not pay for anything. Not everyone had had a meal and we left there 3 hours later, hungry and angry. Never again.

NOT IMPRESSED http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/italian-restaurants/trattoria-italiana-biagio-wc2n6nd.html#r44206 This retaurant i found tucked down a back street near charing cross station .it looked okay .we went into the restaurant and was seated very quickly and even before we had removed our coats we were presented with a basket of bread and a bowl of olives .which i thought was a very nice thought for their customers .i ordered a rack of lamb as the man sitting next to me had just been served his and it looked great .my mouth was watering as i was starving .i didnt have to wait long for my rack of lamb to turn up .and when it was placed in front of me i had to stare at the guy next to me as his rack of lamb was twice the size of mine .i called the waiter back and asked him if he had dropped part of my meal on the way to the table (a joke) he wasnt impressed and went away to find out why my lamb was so small .the guy next to me was laughing (maybe its a midget lamb ) he said .anyway the waiter returned and explained it was all they had left and went to walk away .i called him back and asked if the lamb was half the size it should be would the price reflect on that also .he went away to find out ,when my friends pasta turned up it was cold .so i called the waiter over to replace it .but after all these problems the meal was fairly pleasent it tasted okay .my shock came when the bill was presented they had charged extra on the bill for the bread and olives .my friend had eaten one olive and i had one slice of french stick the extra was £4.00.i called the waiter over and asked him to explain .he said the extra was for the bread and olives i told him i hadnt asked for them and he said it was custom for the restaurant to put the bread and olives on the table .i explained that we had eaten one olive and one slice of bread .he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away .i stood my ground and deducted the £ 4.00 from the bill and walked out after paying the rest .i have found that a few restaurants in london are doing this now ,even some charging for condiments such as salt and pepper .

Good all rounder http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/italian-restaurants/sapori-wc2b5rt.html#r40798 It seems to be increasingly difficult to avoid chain restaurants these days. Accessible to the crowds but somewhat tucked away on Drury Lane, Sapori offers a good alternative to the usual trusty Italian ones which we all know and love. People who get narky about cover charge should be forewarned… However, the staff are really great and the menu covers all bases. Pizzas and pasta are equally good, prices are standard London.

Its nothing amazing in here, just basic tapas, they bring it when its ready so its nice and hot, and the place is relaxed and friendly.
