<![CDATA[Greater London - Camden - Covent Garden - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Mediterranean Restaurants - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Shocking http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/mediterranean-restaurants/sarastro-wc2b5su.html#r40796 This restaurant seems to have a little identity confusion… Firstly the interior (it seems to think it’s a theatre), complete with gold drapes everywhere, ‘boxes’ on the upper mezzanine level and those red velvet chairs. All that going on really isn’t enough to distract you from the poor quality food, which is Turkish (apparently) and just about edible – mezze for starters, unmemorable mains. We came here for a birthday (yes, says a lot about the host!) and we had to have the set menu as it was opera night, where they have singers attempting to squeeze past the tightly packed tables whilst performing. So far so hmmmm… The toilets always seem to be a talking point (interesting choice of wallpaper).

All in all, one to avoid.

Consistently good http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/mediterranean-restaurants/mediterranean-kitchen-wc2n4ea.html#r37361 I like the Med Kitchen. I've been there a number of times over the past few years and am happy to report that the food quality and service is consistently very good. The menu doesn't change that much, but I think that's OK in this sort of establishment as it's good to have a 'banker' restaurant nearby where you know exactly what you're going to get. Steaks, fries and salads are particularly recommended. Those with a slightly wicked sense of humour can enjoy watching one of the staff who appears to suffer from a mild form of Tourettes!

Generally Passable http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/mediterranean-restaurants/sarastro-wc2b5su.html#r25729 The 'Turkish-oriented' food was generally passable, with occasional items showing flickers or promise. The main courses were sensibly plain but lacking in originality. The Chicken Princess was essentially chicken breast with red wine sauce, was acceptable but far from majestic. The grilled halibut accented with mixed vegetables, was nicely cooked, nothing sapecial.

Harem - Restaurant http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/mediterranean-restaurants/sarastro-wc2b5su.html#r21983 This restaurant has not a good food but I suggest to go there just to have a look at the decors that characterized it. The restaurant it's like a Turkish harem, incredible, if you don't seet it you can't understand. Unfortunatly, as I wrote before, food is mediocre and the waiters are not so good to take the orders, they're really slow!

Mediocre http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/mediterranean-restaurants/med-kitchen-wc2h8aa.html#r18326 You know what you are going to get here - good quick food, but as the previous review has said the menu NEVER changes and they seem to lack from any specials or anything that would make a visit different.

So - it is a bit better than the Browns chain, but at the end of the day it is a chain, so you know what you are going to get... which is always a bit mediocre.

(They also use really weird wine glasses which never make the wine taste at its best).

Chain reaction http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/mediterranean-restaurants/med-kitchen-wc2h8aa.html#r10280 Service can be good, service can be bad but the food is always good. However, the menu never changes. Good for a quick lunch if you don't want a sandwich. It is quite reasonable. The fish cakes are good as are the chips!

substandard chain http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/mediterranean-restaurants/med-kitchen-wc2h8aa.html#r6360 I'd agree with Daniel - I've had several very disappointing meals here. I've only ever ended up here out of convenience, eg before the theatre, or after wandering around Covent Garden, and somehow you always expect it to be better.

Given the prices they charge you'd expect something much tastier - £30 for two main courses which we couldn't even finish because they were so bad. I get very cross paying money for terrible food and next time I need some food at speed, it won't be at Med Kitchen.

Fast and Effiecient Maybe, but Good Food?! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/mediterranean-restaurants/med-kitchen-wc2h8aa.html#r1309 I have to disagree with Caitlin. She is spot on about the speed with which you are served; in fact I'd go further to say that the staff were incredibly friendly too. But the food is nothing short of mediocre.

I was expecting something along the lines of a Strada or Pizza Express, and while I don't rate those chains particularly highly either, this place didn't even reach their standards. The portions were huge, far to big for a lunch time, and the tastes lack luster.

If this is the only place you can get a table after the theatre, then maybe, but make that your only criteria.
