<![CDATA[Greater London - Camden - Covent Garden - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Restaurant Bars - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en 1920s speak easy http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/restaurant-bars/aka-wc1a1jj.html#r56590 I went here with a girl friend when we had decided that we needed a big night out and felt like everyone else was being boring.

For a central London night club this place is a gem. It has a nice mix of people around the mid 20s, the music is generally a good mix of old and new, drinks are reasonably priced and the decor great. Lots of sofas, plush velvet curtains hanging from the walls and friendly staff.

If you are planning a night out here, it should be a good one. Enjoy!

Scottish Fayre http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/restaurant-bars/albannach-wc2n5ds.html#r41401 I'm scottish and wish that my Mum offered such a great menu when growing up. My childhood was stoovies, mince and tatties, stew and spag bol. I went here with my Dad a few months back and he in particular enjoyed the endless whisky selection.

I'd head here at weekends - either as great six nations venue or on a non rugby weekend to spoil your girlfriend/boyfriend.

The Doon Stairs bar in the basement is open late and is okay after a few beers/wine. The music is of the cheesey flavour

Forge yourself http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/restaurant-bars/the-forge-restaurant-wc2e9bj.html#r38460 Funky little restaurant almost more brasserie style really. A decent sized menu with some great food on offer here. The wine menu is really good, and as my friend says, it brings out the diva in us all, but that was after about 5 glasses.

A taste of Scotland in Central London http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/restaurant-bars/albannach-wc2n5ds.html#r36574 I love this bar. I have been twice and thoroughly enjoy it there. Perfect for big screen rugby action. Food is extremely good, particularly the haggis in filo pastry, potato wedges. Quite pricey though. We ordered 1 scotch egg and it was £5! Comfortable seating, attractive staff and great service make this a great experience. Completely spottless as well. Ample choice of whisky. Located next to Trafalgar Sq - (Charing Cross Tube)

Highland Bling http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/restaurant-bars/albannach-wc2n5ds.html#r31947 Large restaurant and bar, with tartan-clad waiting staff and fine malt whiskeys providing a taste of Scotland in the heart of London.

Incorporates Doon (as in doon-stairs!), which is a slick cocktail bar, with intimate seating booths and candlelit tables.

There is a 15% waitress service charge so best to order at the bar!

Eat and Drinks http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/restaurant-bars/christophers-wc2e7dd.html#r25908 This restaurtant is really huge, bright and comfortable. The atmosphere is unformal and this is not the tipical noisy restaurant. Staff is very helpful and polite, always ready to give advices to the costumers. If you're interested in drinking there are cocktails and bar meals in the chic and spacious downstairs bar.

Dutch gem in Covent Garden. http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/restaurant-bars/lowlander-wc2b5rr.html#r25590 I almost walked right past the Lowlander the first time I went wandering round the corner from the craziness of Covent Garden Xmas shoppers on a Sunday. Once inside, it's a different story.

Internally the Lowlander is pretty grand. The bar is stocked high with a wide variety of different beers from all over the world including a good selection of wheat and fruit beers if you fancy something slightly different. The beers are served as they are on the continent in one of the many multitudes of appropriately different glasses that they also keep for the purpose.

I've been back several times now and it's a really nice place to go, varying between moderately busy and totally relaxed in terms of atmosphere but always pleasant and devoid of any of the rush or deafening loudness of some of the bars in London, so a good place for a proper conversation or book reading etc.

The food is good too, not too fancy but fresh and good quality, nice steak sandwiches etc. The table service for food is great and the bar staff are relaxed and friendly. It's pricier than a Wetherspoons but not expensive by London standards and you definitely get what you pay for, plus you can try lots of new beer.

There's at least one other branch in London.

Good food, rubbish service http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/restaurant-bars/ha-ha-bar-canteen-wc2n6ng.html#r24645 I'm a massive fan of HaHa and have visited many of the branches over the years, but my recent visit to this branch fell way short of my expectations.

Food was pretty similar in quality to every other HaHa but it was the service that fell far short. Staff were rude and took ages to bring food and drink, and we heard them accusing other diners of forging a money off voucher (which they then accepted was real!)

A rather poor and expensive night.

Sexy Samba http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/restaurant-bars/guanabara-wc2b5pw.html#r22303 Been here at the weekends and the place was so lively! Great music, great dancing. Everyone was really friendly too which made the evening much more enjoyable. Also been on a Thursday and the place is really busy from really early. Get a few Brahmas in, or a mojito, take part in the samba class, watch the capoeira display and dance or talk the night away. Shame about the massive queues for the ladies though!
