You can bring your own picnic or enjoy a glass of wine whilst chilling out in this lovely setting.

Book as early as possible for the film screenings - it's only on for a couple weeks at the end of July / start of August - and tickets sell out fast.

It also served as a Royal Residence for a time.

The Courtald Gallery hosts one of the finest collections of paintings in London, while the Hermitage Rooms contain treasures from the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia.

More importantly, Somerset House provides one of the best educational, and volunteer programmes of all the museums and art galleries in London, such as Art workshops for schools and families. It also hosts the Courtald Institute.

Although it is a paying institution, it is still possible to visit the Courtyard and cafes in the Seamans' Hall.

Overlooking the Thames, and surrounded by the National Theatre and Royal Festival Hall, it is the perfect way to spend a hot Summer's day.

I can't say if that's great value for money or not, but they have done a great job. Loads of space, and you can even lets the kids off the leash inside if they fancy a go at annoying tourists and running around the place. Seeing a concert in the main hall is fantastic, and the acoustics are 'top notch!'
