<![CDATA[Greater London - Camden - Covent Garden - Entertainment and Culture - Tourist Attractions - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Summer films http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/tourist-attractions/somerset-house-wc2r1la.html#r52480 As long as it remains dry, you bring layers and a cushion, watching a movie at Somerset House on a summer evening is pretty amazing. You can bring your own picnic or enjoy a glass of wine whilst chilling out in this lovely setting. Book as early as possible for the film screenings - it's only on for a couple weeks at the end of July / start of August - and tickets sell out fast.

Somerset House http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/tourist-attractions/somerset-house-trust-wc2r1la.html#r50369 Somerset House is famed for its winter ice rink and Summer gigs, as well as its collections. It also served as a Royal Residence for a time. The Courtald Gallery hosts one of the finest collections of paintings in London, while the Hermitage Rooms contain treasures from the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. More importantly, Somerset House provides one of the best educational, and volunteer programmes of all the museums and art galleries in London, such as Art workshops for schools and families. It also hosts the Courtald Institute. Although it is a paying institution, it is still possible to visit the Courtyard and cafes in the Seamans' Hall. Overlooking the Thames, and surrounded by the National Theatre and Royal Festival Hall, it is the perfect way to spend a hot Summer's day.

Sound so Boring http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/tourist-attractions/london-brass-rubbing-centre-wc2n4jj.html#r37380 Sounds like the sort of thing hippies did in the 70s ... wrong. This is a really good way to keep the kids occupied .. and you leave with a nice pice of art that you can cherish ... cos YOU created it. Brass rubbing is easy, you dont need any form of artistic talent and you WILL create a masterpiece. The staff are on hand to help, and are really friendly too!. You need to go down a flight of steps, but dont let going underground put u off!

A very pretty place to visit http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/tourist-attractions/somerset-house-wc2r1la.html#r21449 Somerset House is a very pretty historic building right by the London Eye. I really love visiting Somerset House, it always amazes me how quiet it is despite being in the middle of London. The time visiting really is a must is just before Christmas, the outdoor ice rink in is really quite magical and can really set the mood for Christmas and can be quite romantic.

Fantastic self service cafe/restaurant http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/tourist-attractions/st-martininthefields-wc2n5dn.html#r18392 Not a lot of people know this but there is a fantastic self service cafe/restaurant in the crypt (underneath) St Martin in the Fields. It's great value for money considering you're in central London and the food is really good. Another facinating fact is that there are bells from this church in a tower in Perth, Australia and an exact replica of this church just near ground zero in New York, USA.

Seasonal fun http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/tourist-attractions/somerset-house-wc2r1la.html#r17834 This is a beautiful location for concerts in the summer and a good chance to see well-known artists in an intimate venue.

They also have summer outdoor screenings of classic films, but my favourite has to be the ice rink in the winter, the best outdoor rink in London.

The Friday Night Cycle Ride http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/covent-garden/tourist-attractions/friday-night-ride-wc1a1bl.html#r3740 There are a few things that you can say with some degree of confidence about the Friday Night Ride.

1 - It happens on cycles 2 - It starts and stops at the Crown Pub in Bloomsbury (mostly) 3 - It stops at pubs and (hopefully) a beigel shop along the way 4 - You don't have to be a cycle nut, and it's fun

Most other things are fluid (have I mentioned the liquids yet?)

The idea is that a ride is planned and published on the website http://www.fridaynightride.com, and on Friday night a group of people get together to ride around town with plenty of stops along the way. The ride is at the pace of the slowest, everyone is there ot enjoy themselves. Sometimes it is a leisurely 10 mile ride, sometimes a more challenging 30+ miles.

Oh yes, there is normally an attempt at high-rise cycle parking in an effort to beat previous records.
