<![CDATA[Greater London - Camden - Fitzrovia - Home and Garden - Builders' Merchants - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Sounds more like a Jermyn Street shirtmaker http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/fitzrovia/builders-merchants/james-phelps-w1t4sr.html#r2387 This establishment, which sounds more like a Jermyn Street shirtmaker than a Goodge Place Builders Merchants, is a dying breed in central London. A proper old fashioned builder’s trade counter. There’s no idle browsing here, as you can’t actually get to the goods, which you can see, but are temptingly out of reach, behind the counter. Either you know what you want, or you summon up the courage to ask, and risk the contempt of the counter staff. No, not really, they are very helpful! Particularly good for big stuff – sheets of plasterboard, bags of cement, plumbing pipes – that are generally hard to find in the West End. This place was mentioned in Paul McCartney’s biography: when he was helping out at the Indica Gallery, St james in the mid sixties, he collected some lumber from here in his open top Bentley.
