<![CDATA[Greater London - Camden - Highgate - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Pubs - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en bit of a disappointment http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/highgate/pubs/the-flask-n66bu.html#r55073 The atmosphere at the flask is generally quite buzzing, so for a few drinks with friends it is a great place to go, however, the Sunday lunch I just had there was a real disappointment, the lamb was fatty and tough, potatoes were soggy and the veg was not great either and all of this covered in a mediocre gravy!! We also ordered espressos which came out on a filthy tray with dessert spoons to stir in the sugar!! The service is generally quite friendly and promt and it is obvious that the staff are under a lot of pressure as it is always so busy. I will not be going here again for food (unless I hear of a drastic improvement!!!) but will still go for the odd drink.

Great Sunday Lunch Pub http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/highgate/pubs/the-wrestlers-n64aa.html#r44047 Really nice pub- went for Sunday Lunch recently. Good price, nice food, very attentive and efficient service.

Basically same sort of thing as The Flask nearby, but done cheaper, friendlier and more competently.

Also lots of families in without the place seeming overrun with kids.

busy but worth it! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/highgate/pubs/the-flask-n66bu.html#r30376 We walked up to the Flask having been walking round Hampstead Heath all morning and it was well worth the uphill struggle in the sun! The courtyard garden is stuffed with an absolute jumble of tables and chairs but it is somehow charmingly quirky! Our food took over an hour to arrive and you will never see a more orderly queue for a bar but somehow as we weren't in a hurry it didn't matter. Looking forward to my next visit

Once you've walked round Kenwood/Hampstead Heath http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/highgate/pubs/the-spaniards-inn-nw37jj.html#r24192 Once you've worked up a thirst tramping round Kenwood Estate or Hampstead Heath this a great pub to stop and refresh. Not just Dick Turpin, it's also believed Charles Dickens would pop in for a pint too! It has a great garden, which is lit up with night lights and feels all romantic and otherworldy after dark.

Star spot - Chris Evans http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/highgate/pubs/the-flask-n66bu.html#r24186 The Flask is a really good pub, with a great drinks and food menu. Sounds odd, but if you've got to the go the Royal Free for any reason and need a drink to steady your nerves before hand or celebrate afterwards I would really recommend a visit. It is fab in the winter with the fire. But also great in the summer 'cos the garden is large and sunny. There's a mixed clientele everyone from Chris Evans and failed members of Big Brother to yummy mummys and city slickers.

The place for Sunday Roast http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/highgate/pubs/the-spaniards-inn-nw37jj.html#r16557 Always loved this place.

It has bags of character, the fireplaces make it a great winter haunt and the vast beer garden makes it the place to be on a sunny Sunday afternoon

Great selection of wines and beers and would love to believe that Dick Turpin did in fact once drink here.

The dog wash is an added bonus as you always get good dog activity. great for those of us who don't have the space to own our own.

The Little Prince http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/highgate/pubs/prince-of-wales-n65jx.html#r13583 Cosy little pub on Pond Square/Highgate High Street. Its small size gives you the impression of drinking in someone's living room. Very welcoming, and the Thai food is pretty good too, just don't go in a big group or you won't all fit in.

Silver 'Spoons http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/highgate/pubs/the-gatehouse-n64bd.html#r13579 With its mock-tudor exterior, and upstairs theatre, you'll be momentarily fooled that this isnt a Wetherspoons. Once inside though, you'll notice the same old Wetherspoon's touches, making this as familiar as a tatty old pair of trousers you've had for years. Obviously, this is Highgate, so the old men at the bar are of a slightly higher social standing than in your standard 'Spoons. Worth going for some bargain prices in an area not known for its bargains.

Flask of the Summer Wine http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/highgate/pubs/the-flask-n66bu.html#r12859 If you're busy exploring Highgate Cemetery, looking for the Vampire, and feel a bit thirsty, then I'd recommend popping into the Flask. Situated at one end of Pond Square (which is haunted by the ghost of a chicken), The Flask is probably the most ye-olde-villagy pub in Highgate Village, all nooks and crannies, haunted bars and pricey gastrofood. Dickensian at Christmas, and with a beer garden for Summer drinking, the major downside is that this place gets stupidly busy, so arrive early if you want the luxury of a seat.
