<![CDATA[Greater London - Camden - Holborn - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Memory Lane http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/holborn/bars/grayz-inn-wine-bar-wc1v6hz.html#r55949 I took a trip down memory lane to the bar at the inn and found out it changed to Grayz inn. Quiet nice bar now but not a patch on what it used to be. I have fond memories of leaving the bar at around 6.00am o dodge the people coming into work. Has the old owner John got a new bar? I really need to find it!!! Why cant bars be like they used to.

Overpriced - food, service and dining room all poor http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/holborn/indian-restaurants/moti-mahal-wc2b5aa.html#r55743 I had high hopes for Moti Mahal but I was very disappointed.

For the prices they charge (£17 a starter, £15 for a main) I expected good ingredients, a nice restaurant experience and some interesting courses on the menu.

Unfortunately I didn't receive any of this. I'd describe it as an average local Indian in the middle of west end so punters are tricked (like I was) into thinking it might be something a little special.

Avoid and head up the road to either Sitaary (if you're hungry) or Bhatti Indian if you fancy a curry fix.

Food with beer to match! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/holborn/french-restaurants/pearl-wc1v7en.html#r55740 A place for a special occasion, Pearl is a hotel restaurant for The Renaissance Hotel. While it's chef, Jun Tanaka, might be better known for his speed in masking omelette's he puts this skill aside to knock up some truly tasty menu's!

There is a good selection on the a la carte but as always the tasting menu is the place to go if you want to really splash out. Something that stood out for me was the fact that you could match beer with the meals in addition to the standard wine matching found at most places - a really nice touch if you ask me.

Food is seasonal and there is something for everyone. When I went a winter vegetable salad and a perfect piece of venison really impressed!

McDonalds http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/holborn/fast-food-takeaway/mcdonalds-wc1v6js.html#r55148 McDonalds are normaly situated in a really accessable area but when you get there you some times realise why. They are normally employing young staff so they are not always sure what to do.

Busy, but you can tell why http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/holborn/italian-restaurants/ciao-bella-wc1n3lz.html#r53116 At 7:00 on a Wednesday night, you wouldn't expect a restaurant which is tucked out of the way to be overly busy. Ciao Bella was, and the 2 of us only just managed to get a table. The atmosphere is lively and communal, something helped by the proximity of tables to each other, and the staff only add to this.

A huge menu with almost endless varieties of pizza and pasta, as well as various meat dishes left us spoiled for choice, and we eventually decided on a pizza and veal. Both were well worth the money, and large enough portions to satiate us -- almost enough to resist the desserts!

A meal for 2, including wine was £50, although you could easily dine for £10 each if you skip the booze.

great kobe beef! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/holborn/american-restaurants/wolfes-bar-grill-wc2b5bb.html#r53008 This restaurant is a little dated inside but, it would have been fantastic when new. The ceiling is covered in mirrors which creates a strange visual experience thats not unpleasant.

We ordered the Kobe beef burger with fries and salad. I have to say that we both thought the burger was out of this world, succulent, tender and juicy.

The theory is that Kobe beef cattle are massaged, given beer and talked to so that they grow and develop in a virtually stress free environment. In return for their treatment they produce the most tender meat!!

Well worth a visit!

A camera shop... with a cafe! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/holborn/cafes/the-camera-cafe-wc1a1ly.html#r43739 Coffee was above average, and they have a decent range of pre-loved camera gear in here. an essential stop on a 'buying more camera' trip round central London. if you sufffer from NAS (Nikon aquisition syndrome) then this place should be at the top of your list.

Booze clouded memories http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/camden/holborn/night-clubs/bloomsbury-ballroom-wc1b4da.html#r43017 Went here for the 'works xmas party' - which consequently means my review isn't worth the HTML it's written on as I was already sozzled when I turned up, and I tried in vain to keep up with the sales team who were on their traditional mission to top up their bonuses by necking as much free hooch as possible.

So, what can I remember? Erm, not much, the head of the company gave a lacklustre speech which did little to bloster the troops of a businessgoing through a rocky patch..

Oh, the venue? Well, it had an art deco vibe to it as I recall, perhaps even a touch of the neo-classical??

I was forcibly ejected from the place when I tried to spark up a fag inside, which is fantastic as I don't even smoke.

I'm looking forward to returning and casting another drunken eye over the place...
