<![CDATA[Greater London - Hackney - Hackney - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Brilliant http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/hackney/hackney/restaurant-bars/garbos-bar-grill-e97jl-1.html#r55666 I saw Garbo's and thought it looked brilliant- Inside was done out even better- All back in the day, vintage style. Really classic. I actually felt like I had stepped back in time- The music, staff and venue was just so cool- with loads of space to sit and chill and also take in an old movie- It was nice to be somewhere with something different going on

The food was also really good- If you like your alfresco/char-grilled type stuff-Proper chips and proper burgers.

Being a smoker- I was pleased to discover their practically inside smoking area-warm, dry (need to know these things as winter is upon us) and also done out really nicely. Even the loo was cool!

Anyway- I thought I'd write a review because there really isn't many places out there like this and it really is worth knowing about!

Do not eat here- rancid and expensive! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/hackney/hackney/pubs/spurstowe-arms-e81ab-1.html#r52819 I have just had the most DISGUSTING food I have ever experienced in a pub in the Spurstowe arms. I ordered the smoke Salmon and scrambled egg brunch and the salmon tasted like it had been sitting in a plastic bag and covered in oil for 2 weeks. It was rancid! The egg was not much better and a pitiful amount. My 5 friends all had the English breakfast and for 8.50 a go - one piece of scraggy bacon, a sausage, a burnt piece of toast and a tomato was certainly not worth the money! I will never, ever go back to this pub and I would not recommend it to anyone. Although the girls behind the bar were nice, the man (possibly the manager) was less than apologetic or helpful and sent us on our way when we complained about the salmon. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!

Pub on the park http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/hackney/hackney/pubs/pub-on-the-park-e83pe.html#r43505 excellent atmosphere in the summer, put simply, nothing else in hackney is even on the same par. The rest stand to compare as the vulgar indoor limited vernacular. On a common, but it's not so common. A stones throw from an olympic outdoor heated pool, park for the kids adjacent, overlooking the last spacious green patch before the inner east closes in on itself into the city greys (apart from the world class splash of culture via the added diverse graffiti in the area also). Becoming more cosmopolitan, and welcoming to once w1 only dwellers with local gentrification limited to realistic practicalities. Top drama every time i visited furthermore as i learnt more and more about the novel capacity of the staff. A saucy south african girl, Helen, and the tall australian lad Richard, an ironic ex convict. Both there almost every day, working or drinking with the rest of us. Their private lives very widely discussed with suspense. I miss hearing AND experiencing the drama there literally. One of those places you have to go to more than once on tour for sure. Some really hate a crazy governor, but if you look past any offence, and open your self to the amusement, there's a sound laugh in his quite theatrical lack of patron concern.

Pub with a beer park http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/hackney/hackney/pubs/pub-on-the-park-e83pe.html#r41371 This pub has a great terrace over looking London Fields. It's a great place to meet friends for a booooozy Sunday.

I haven't eaten here for a log time so can't comment on the food. However, as place for a few beers after a kick about on London Fields it's ideal.

Nuts http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/hackney/hackney/pubs/the-dolphin-e83rh.html#r28503 The Dolphin is plain nuts. It's worth going just see the special people who live in this area of Hackney (and I count myself among them). Especially great are the foul bathrooms, terrible pool table and clientele straight out of Prisoner Cell Block H. Classy.

They're opening a restaurant next door too.. can't wait
