<![CDATA[Greater London - Islington - Angel - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Cafes - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Hidden treasure http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cafes/candid-cafe-ec1v1ny.html#r32131 Really tucked away this one (despite being right next to the tube) and you wouldn't necessarily find it if you weren't looking for it. Defenitely worth a visit though as it's completely different from just about any other cafe. High ceilings and lots of nice art to look at on the walls and does good coffee and cakes as well. Unique.

Tinder Tops http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cafes/tinder-box-n10pq.html#r32125 Love this place, especially the old aeroplane seats which are worth waiting for and great to chill out with a coffee and the day's papers in. You're spolit for choice in Angel when it comes to trendy coffee shops but this is definitely one of the best ones and not the most expensive.

Nice! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cafes/tinder-box-n10pq.html#r3489 This light and airy coffee house has one really great feature, airline seats!

These seats look staight out of business class complete with fold out tables, and are great fun. The coffee's nice, but the seats are the winner.

Nice Place - bad WiFi http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cafes/tinder-box-n10pq.html#r3431 As a coffee shop Tinderbox is actually really good. The coffee is excellent, if slightly on the pricey side, and, if you decide to go large, comes in what can only be described as a bowl. The place always feels quite buzzy so if you ever have half and hour or so to kill in Angel on your own I'd recommend dropping by and lounging in one of their huge airline seats. You can also get Internet access, either from one of their computers, or using their 3 pound an hour WiFi. Avoid the later, it tends to be painfully slow, and most pages end up timing out. To their credit though, they were more than happy to give me a refund.

This is not coffee (Part 1) http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cafes/starbucks-n10pn.html#r2607 I will refrain from reviewing every Starbucks in town because that would be both time wasting and pedantic. I feel I must however point finger at at least all 5 of them on or just off Upper Street (in the N1 area).

My main overall problem with Starbucks is not their homogenised awfulness, nor their ability to quash smaller independent coffee shops, nor the soporific effect they have on the imagination of their patrons, though all of these and more are good reasons to hold disdain.

No, the reason I really do quite hate these places is their awful bloody 'coffee'. I can honestly say I have never enjoyed a drink from a Starbucks and now refuse to give them any more tries (maybe I had a bad roast, maybe it's just a poor franchise, maybe the cup had anthrax in it).

Seriously, it's not good coffee. In fact I'd argue if they should even be allowed to call it coffee.

Yes. If they stop ruining the idea of what a coffee shop is and take to calling themselves brown-hot-sweet-drink shops then I'll back down.

Until then I protest and implore anyone that likes their pap to try Monmouth Coffee on Monmouth Street in Covent Garden (there's another one in Borough Market). That's coffee.

Come fly with me! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cafes/tinder-box-n10pq.html#r2492 If you don't mind lurking about for a bit to get a seat, then it's worth the wait - personal favourites are the old aeroplane seats and the little booth style seats nearer the front.

It is usually quite busy, especially at the weekend, but once you secure a seat, you can happily chill out with the papers and a big bowl of coffee. With Islington being such a good place for people watching, you might like to sit in the window area and see how many actors you can spot on Upper Street!

Particularly yummy are the huge, French style bowls of coffee and the chai tea latte is lovely and frothy and served in a sundae type glass.

Big chain coffee shop http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cafes/starbucks-n10pn.html#r167 Everyone knows Starbucks; it must be the largest chain of coffee shops in the UK. There are no less than four branches on Angel's Upper Street, which I find off putting. I always try to go to an independent coffee shop over Starbucks, but it's Chai Tea Latte is undeniably delicious, so I often find myself tempted.

Great coffee http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cafes/tinder-box-n10pq.html#r1093 Tinderbox is a coffee shop in Angel, which is always buzzing - possibly because the customers are sick of the four, yes four, Starbucks on the same road. The coffee is good, and there's a choice of tasty cakes and biscuits, as well as sandwiches and smoothies. The real Tinderbox experience is only achieved if you manage to bag the aeroplane seats, which come complete with pull out trays and recline buttons. There is also regular live acoustic music which is worth looking out for.
