<![CDATA[Greater London - Islington - Angel - Entertainment and Culture - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Excellent venue, and quite nice ice-cream too http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/theatres/sadlers-wells-theatre-ec1r4tn.html#r53310 I always love a trip to Sadler's Wells... the lovely, modern entrance area is striking in this leafy North London street and inside rests an excellent theatre where most seats provide great views of the versatile stage. A great setting for some brilliant productions.

Not bad but NOT cheap http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cinemas/vue-n10ps.html#r33382 Good cinema, great location close to Angel tube and the shops in the N1 centre but how on earth can they justify the prices? Even the student rate is extortionate! They do at least make buying the tickets easy with self service machines.

Good live music venue http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/theatres/carling-academy-n10ps.html#r30558 This is a pretty decent, intimate venue, the sound is fairly good and the location is convenient, being right in Angel shopping centre. The bands that play here are usually affordable too, and you also get gigs sponsored by people like XFM, for which you can win tickets. I’ve seen Athlete and Keane here, both of whom were excellent. The beer used to be Carling only – but now they serve three others on tap too, including Grolsch which is always good.

Films http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cinemas/vue-n10ps.html#r14577 This is a really popular and well located cinema in Angel in the N1 centre.

I get round the expense problem by buying standby tickets on lastminute.com. This allows you to get tickets to any show for £4.50 each. It's brilliant and works Mon to Thursday.

This cinema always has lots on and has many screens. Upstairs they occasionally have a film quiz and a large confectionary counter including a ben & jerrys.

Expensive for what it is http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cinemas/vue-n10ps.html#r8824 Vue Islington is charging £9.45 for a Monday night screening, which is ridiculously expensive.

At that price I won't be going, because my last two visits here have been disappointing.

The auditorium clearly hadn't been swept in between screenings because it was strewn with popcorn. And there were far too many people in the audience who thought it was acceptable to chat throughout the film.

Also, the ticket office is completely unstaffed on a Monday night. So if you turned up with cash in your pocket rather than a debit or credit card, you wouldn't be able to get in, because the automated machines don't accept cash.

110% http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/amusement-parks-arcades/electrowerkz-ec1v1nq.html#r2781 The 100% Dynamite reggae nights are fantastic fun.

The club itself is pretty shabby and probably hasn't changed much from its old industrial days. For drinks expect a cold can of Red Stripe, and there's not much of a chill out area. The lighting on the dancefloor amounts to a projection of a few Studio One album covers. But the music is faultless, and as everyone's just there to dance the atmosphere is always superb, so the reliably young and gorgeous crown don't seem to look down on old dudes like myself as they're too busy dancing like loons.

Nothing extraordinary http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cinemas/vue-n10ps.html#r2345 Although the prices seemed quite high for a cinema NOT located in the West End, there is little to complain about in this cinema.

The staff were friendly and there was no litter in sight, which should be the case in all cinemas, but there was nothing that stood out about this one to make me specifically want to return.

It was, however, fairly surprising to find that it consists of 9 screens, seeing as the entire surrounding area is taken up with shops, but this was marred by the fact that when we visited it was extremely crowded and therefore difficult to find a seat.

A decent cinema, nicely located, but nothing special.

Well, it's... like every other Vue http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/cinemas/vue-n10ps.html#r2235 While relatively close to the center of London this cinema has reasonable price tickets (similar to most other Vue cinemas out of the west end).

Of course as Rik mentioned the food and drink is horrifically expensive so avoid unless you really want it. I personally popped into a nearby bar before the film and skipped the in cinema dining :)

The cinema is fairly logcally laid out and the screens and seats are both pretty good.

During some films the lights are particularly lighter than most other cinemas however, which might bother some people.

All in all, not bad, not brilliant.

Bangface raves http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/islington/angel/amusement-parks-arcades/electrowerkz-ec1v1nq.html#r1577 My friends encouraged me to come raving with them one night at Bangface (a monthly retro rave playing acid, jungle and drum n bass music). This did not appeal to me at all at first until I actually went to this hectic event from 10pm-6am. Fun masks and clothes are available to wear and the whole night is great fun - it gives all present something to look forward to for next month.
