<![CDATA[Greater London - Lambeth - Brixton - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Cafes - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Great local cafe! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/cafes/opus-sw25tn-1.html#r15535 If you're looking for somewhere to grab a coffee in the morning or a sandwich at lunch, you could do far worse than popping into Opus.

There's a small restaurant upstairs too, which is a bit pricey, but again, it's a gem in this part of Brixton.

the best loo paper in SW2 http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/cafes/negril-sw21rs.html#r9240 Not only is Negril a gem of a place, it has the most entertaining wallpaper in the toilet - old copies of Heat magazine etc....brilliant.

In addition to Miko's spot on review try the Coconut and Lime prawns, they are truly divine.

I can't wait for the summer, I'll be there for my tea every week.

truly disapointed http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/cafes/ferndales-sw47se.html#r9226 Having read the above reviews, i took my wife out for dinner on her birthday last night at this place, Well all i can say is that im truly disapointed with the service, the chef had gone sick, no waitress, a 45 minute for our food, my wife and sister in law ordered the pizza's which needed cutting with my steak knife, added to which a typical group of english snobby stuck up little 20 somethings decided to pass comment about my wife using a knife, and that she should of ate it with her hands , well as i recall i paid for the meal not them, the seating arrangements were cramped and everybody were on top of each other. I even attempted to order desert and was told they had run out of vertually their small range of desert offerings, Back in the U.S i am used to decent service , better ergonomics , and certainly nicer folk who come to eat out not pass comments on others choice of dining, And certainly a wider and better choice of menu, if it was made to recreate a typical french cafe / restraunte , then im sure it was very close , because last time we were in paris , bad service and rude people were top of the list .

Everyone has their own opinions and ideas where to eat out , but im thinking pizza hut would have been a better option.

Small but perfectly formed http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/cafes/opus-sw25tn.html#r6546 If I lived any closer to Opus, I think they might have to reserve a seat for me every day at lunchtime. Nowhere else in/around Brixton can you get sandwiches such as these: freshly baked soft bread enrobing a range of fillings that are perfectly matched, all grilled to perfection. They make their own bread and I have to say, they do a damn fine job of it. This is not your typical British sarnie bar: these are the same folks who run Michelin-quality Upstairs and the on-site weekend organic veg market, so they know food. Some might complain that it's a menu of set sandwiches rather than choose-your-own deli counter style service, but to me this is fine. Why not leave it to the experts, who have developed and honed their menu to perfection? There's plenty of choice for everyone.

The owners' continental roots shine through: Opus is one of the few places in London (if not the UK) that you can get a proper Spanish chocolate - the hot chocolate drink usually served with churros, stirring away in its special serving machine. While there aren't any churros to go with your chocolate or coffee, there are some great cakes and biscuits.

My only complaint is that their stools are a bit uncomfortable, making it more of an eat & run environment than one where you want to linger... which is probably done on purpose, as it gets really busy at weekends.

Free range jerk chicken that will rock your world! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/cafes/negril-sw21rs.html#r6545 On the former site of locally-loved (if less than perfect) cafe Basement Jo's sits Negril, a down-home cafe/restaurant where the food and vibe remind you of hanging out at a mate's house - a mate who can cook the socks off the local competition.

Breakfasts are comforting and filling, and the Caribbean-inspired dishes make your tastebuds smile (if tastebuds could do such a thing!). Hearty curries and healthy grilled fish dishes sit alongside an ample vegetarian menu that includes London's best veggie burger. I've been here a lot and the only let-down was the fritters, which had a rubbery texture that made me think: microwave. But avoid this one slight negative and everything else is wonderful. Drinks include delicious freshly-made juices and smoothies and exquisite Blue Mountain coffee, or BYO bottle at dinnertime.

My top tip: try their succulent and perfectly-spiced jerk chicken in a roti wrap - I guarantee you'll come back again and again for this little bundle of flavoursome heaven. What's more, the chicken is free range, which in itself sets this lovely eaterie apart from 99.9% of the other venues in South London.

What more could you want in a local? How about some of the smiliest staff in the neighbourhood? Altogether, the sum of the parts makes Negril a great deal better than the external appearance & location leads you to expect.

Great for a morning coffee http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/cafes/opus-sw25tn.html#r3700 It's never busy in the morning before 10, the service is super fast and their teas are wonderfully strong.

I love the decor, its all very retro with giant space age lights and old shop signs hanging from the walls.

The cakes look great but I've yet to indulge.

They've usually got all the papers in if you eat in. x

The last of a dying breed? http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/cafes/cafe-delight-sw47ts.html#r2769 These old greasy spoons are getting rarer now. Pushed out by Starbucks and places selling smoothies.

It's a greasy spoon of the old school. Formica 1970's tables and chairs, set breakfast menus (the works - eggs, sausages, bacon, has browns, bubble and squeak, black pudding etc - will set you back around £4 with an extra £1 for a coffee). Portions are massive.

Gordon Ramsey's it aint but it's a true local from the times when Clapham wasn't filled with migrants from Fulham.

The service is friendly the food is what you'd expect - on the greasy side. You'll love it when you're hungover, you probably won't if you're not. It's worth going her just to people watch. Beware the mad woman with the push bag. Beware. :-)
