Well, once you get past all the foreign lables and start picture looking, you realise that its pretty darn cheap. Learn what a Fluh nishgats trasse actually is and you will actually like it,

Brixton Cycles http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/bike-shops/brixton-cycles-sw99tp.html#r22720 Brixton Cycles isnt a faceless chain like Halfords its a proper local biz. I bought my bike from these guys 18 months back. within the first 12 months they gave it 3 free check ups and sorted out any probs. They hold free cycle clinics every Sat morning if you can be bothered. Only issue i have is that they open at 9am and shut at 6pm.. Not ideal if u work

Don't tell them you've named your fish http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/pet-shops/manor-aquatics-sw47ul.html#r12502 We bought our original three goldfish from this shop and all the necessary equipment.

It's well stocked and have recentley started to sell plants which our fish enjoy devouring.

We had to replace a couple of our old fish and when my girlfriend explained that they were to replace Marigold and Deathface they laughed. Not at their names but at the fact that we had named them at all!!!

They're not the most cheerie people around but at least the shop's well stocked. They also stock all the usual pet paraphernalia.

Friendly service, healthy plants http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/florists/gardners-delight-sw25tu.html#r3712 I don't know the guy's name but he seems to be a bit of a pillar of the local community - always having a chat with someone or other when I go by - and if you're from the area you've no doubt saw him sitting in his shop door watching the world go by.

He doesn't have a vast choice of plants available, but he has the right things at the right time of year, and they're strong healthy plants too. The sage plant I bought from him has grown huge in just over six months and is now more of a bush!

A local store for local cyclists http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/bike-shops/apex-cycles-sw47ur.html#r3363 Speak to Richard when you go in. These guys are great. The store is packed with a huge array of bikes, accessories and there is a repair centre at the back for those of you who need some work done. I've tried both Evans - newly opened up the road - and these guys- and would recommend Apex anytime. Asides, from the fact that it isn't a chain store, Richard knows his stuff. He'll let you take the bikes for a test ride if you need. Just leave your card behind the desk. Evans do the same but they swipe your card. Evans also employes students who while are very helpful, I slightly felt that they were looking to make a sale rather than listening to what you want. The prices are more realistic here. evans pushed me towards the higher end bike while Apex actually suggested something cheaper. This place every time.

Even better than Brixton market. Praise the Lord. http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/street-markets/brixton-village-sw98ps.html#r3200 Quiet and relaxed compared to the market outside, although I've no idea why as the quality of the produce seems to be generally higher. The fish stalls are superb, with dozens of types of clear-eyed fresh whole fish available. There are a couple of decent general butchers and greengrocers, and plenty of places selling ingredients so obscure I've no idea if they're even actually food.

My favourites are the South American pork butcher near the Coldharbour Lane entrance - try the huge sausages or the great slabs of ribs - and the religious paraphernalia shop, for all your fire-and-brimstone preaching window sticker needs, complete with a life-sized crucified Jesus statue by the door.

Freewheeling http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/bike-shops/apex-cycles-sw47ur.html#r2849 I'm presuming these people must be suffering from the fact that Evans has just opened virtually opposite but I implore you to pick 'em over the big chain. I've got an old bike I bought cheap off a mate for £20. The front brake stopped working; Evans told me I'd need an entire new brake handle that would take about a week to order in, and that it would cost about £35 including labour and parts to fix it. They offered a full service for £55. Apex looked at it, told me they had the screw/washer it needed and it would cost £1.50. They fitted it for me there and then for nothing, helped me sort out the rear mudguard for free and told me that their services cost £42 but that that it wouldn't be worth paying that much for my old bike. I know where I'll be going back to.

King Of Meat http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/brixton/butchers/phillips-butchers-sw97ll.html#r2504 John at Phillips Butchers is an absolute legend. He does Welsh lamb, Scottish beef, good pork, oxtail, home made sausages, kidneys, lamb and chicken liver, pork pies, rubs for your ribs and ribs for your rubs. If you want someting else he can usually get it if you give him a bit of notice.

Best of all is the service from John and his trusty sidekick, Evei. They are always on form and ready to swap thoughts while the beasts are chopped up for you (and sometimes for a while afterwards).

Go there if you believe in shops, people or meat.
