<![CDATA[Greater London - Lambeth - Lambeth - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Sexy. http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/lambeth/pubs/the-steam-engine-se17bu.html#r43454 The main thing that attracts me here week after week is the unique and pungent odour of urine that permeates every inch of the building (except, bizarrely, the actual toilets).

It really burns the nostrils, and provides a perfect backdrop to a boozer heaving with rough and ready pub cliches: dodgy blokes selling knocked-off items? Check. Beer stained pool table? Check. An incredible array of nuts, crisps and scratchings? Oh yes.

The beer is cheap, and tastes it. They used to have Sky Sports, until it was taken away to save money. Then they lost their two massive TVs to debt collecters. I can honestly say this is the best pub in London to watch the BBC's football coverage on a portable television chained to a shelf.

Quiz machines, wizened locals and a jukebox add to the ambience. There's a pub up the road called The Pineapple which has great food, lovely beer, is often busy and doesn't smell of wee. Ponces. Go here instead.

Arise Sir Alec of Stewart! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/lambeth/stadiums/the-amp-oval-se115sg.html#r43206 If Lords is the cathedral of cricket, then The Oval is one of the very best parish churches! I defy your heart not to swell with pride as you walk through the Alec Stewart gates!

High quality family run restaurant in Kennington http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/lambeth/british-restaurants/franklins-se115qs.html#r39542 A great menu of stuff - the smoked mackeral and beetroot for starter is highly recommended. They do sweetbreads as well if you're feeling brave.

It's a bit like Baltic on Blackfriars Bridge road, but smaller and more intimate.

only criticism is that it's a bit pricy (£35-40 a head when we went) which means it can often be a bit empty.

it's not there anymore! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/lambeth/video-library/apollo-home-entertainment-se114ld.html#r39533 This place shut and is now either the "Kennington Bookshop" which is rather fab...... or the somewhat swanky "il duco" cafe.

I blame the yuppies personally.

Good old family run guitar shop http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/lambeth/record-shops/a-s-m-music-se114ld.html#r39529 Basically it's a guitar shop.... run by two guys who look like they've been there for years and years....... it's very friendly and they seem to have a great range of guitars and keyboards.

I nipped in to buy some new guitar strings and they sound great.

London Fire Brigade Museum http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/lambeth/museums-art-galleries/london-fire-brigade-museum-se17sp.html#r20934 The London Fire Brigade Museum tells about the history of firefighting since 1666 , that is the date of the Great Fire of London. This museum houses old fire appliances and other equipment. It is also possible to see fire brigade recruits training. I didn't find this museum so interesting but I admit that it deals with an important vicissitude (even if bad) of London.

Take Out? Get Out! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/lambeth/lambeth/thai-restaurants/thai-silk-se115dw.html#r16089 I have to say, I don't know about the standards at the restaurant itself, but the take out from this place is disgusting. A few weeks ago my housemate and I couldn't be bothered to cook so we thought we'd order in. Thai Silk's menu seemed really appealing and we ordered an assortment of starters - chicken satay etc as well as a main dish each. It was not cheap at £32 and when it arrived it was disgusting. The starters were all BURNT and the main thai curry dishes were practically stone cold. When we called to complain, Thai Silk were initially unwilling to compensate us but finally agreed to come and pick up the rest of the meal from our house. We had to push them for nearly three weeks to credit the refund which they were repeatedly reluctant to do. Avoid!
