<![CDATA[Greater London - Westminster - Knightsbridge - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Pubs - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Lovely Real Pub http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/knightsbridge/pubs/tea-clipper-sw71hf.html#r52477 Have become quite a regular here over the last year and have to say it has the makings of a real local gem. Food is all homemade and good quality, didn't see anything on the menu which could have been fried other than the fish & chips. Real ale kept very well with friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere - an all round thumbs up from me :-)

A favourite http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/knightsbridge/pubs/the-grenadier-sw1x7nr.html#r47344 The Grenadier has charm, good meals and an outstanding bloody mary. It also nicely located, close to shops and other things, but still hidden away sp you get a feeling of som peace and quiet.

They just want to go home early http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/knightsbridge/pubs/tattersalls-tavern-sw1x7qa.html#r3071 I'm part of a softball league that brings in roughly 300 people per week to the Tattersalls Tavern, and they really don't seem to appreicate us. They are often rude, have closed early in the past and once tried to take my beer out of my hand at 2 minutes past 11pm. You often have to wait ages to be served and if all that wasn't bad enough they quite possibly have the worse toilets in London.

Sloane Street's sole pub http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/knightsbridge/pubs/the-gloucester-sw1x9qr.html#r3053 The Gloucester is never going to top anyone's list of major destination pubs but, given its catchment area, it could be far, far worse. A large proportion of its customers is made up of local shoppers seeking refreshment after spending buckets of their - or someone else's - money in shops like Versace, Dior, Valentino, Armani or just plain old H. A. Rods up there on Brompton Road. But rather than tart itself up to attract even more of these Hermes bag ladies, the Gloucester appears determined to stay reassuringly pub-like in its interior, and its clientele consequently includes a smattering of office and shop workers, local residents and passing tourists. Alas, the very good juke box that was once part of the Gloucester has now been ripped out and replaced by bland background music.

Choose your time well - avoid tea-time as that's when the Sloanes seem to be at their most numerous - and you'll find a decent enough pub with plenty of seats and a pretty good pint of Courage Best. If you pop in to find it rammed, seek out the nearby Turk's Head or the Wilton.

Watch your back http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/knightsbridge/pubs/paxtons-head-sw1x7pa.html#r2987 Known locally as Stabbers following an incident in which a young student working in a nearby ad agency was stabbed one evening. Allegedly.

These days you're more likely to sustain injuries in the wallet area especially if you visit the pan-Asian restaurant upstairs, but the food is delicious.

Over the road - where the ad agency once stood - they're about to finish a block of apartments which will include London's most expensive residence, put on the market for some £80m. Expect an extra 5p or so on the Guinness.

Turn that thing off! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/knightsbridge/pubs/the-nags-head-sw1x8ed.html#r2986 In a word, this pub is idiosyncratic. Oh, you want more words? OK, it's a pub that appeals on many levels. There's the one that the main bar is set at, a sort of desk-height which prohibits any lazy resting up against it. The few bar stools are of a proportionate size, though, which makes the bar seem the right height but standing customers look like giants. Then there's another semi-subterranean level towards the back, where the bar is of normal dimensions but which is rarely populated by actual bar staff. The toilet is up a sort of half-level to the right.

The manager is OK once you get to know him. I was told this by someone who'd met someone who'd heard that someone else had once achieved this. But he seems harmless enough, unless you start bawling on your mobile. He takes a dim view of this and will ask you to turn it off or to take the call outside. Good for him.

Interesting memorabilia on the walls, including an original Kray boxing poster amongst the mostly theatrical prints and caricatures.

Worth a stroll down the road to the Wilton, too.

Daily entertainment http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/knightsbridge/pubs/wilton-arms-sw1x8ed.html#r2985 Weather permitting, standing outside The Wilton can be very entertaining. Passing drivers feel the need to show off their cornering skills and often misjudge the tight turn out of Kinnerton Street, leading to an embarrassing reverse as they have another stab. Award yourself extra points if it happens to BMW driver.

The manager of this pub is a surprisingly decent and down-to-earth sort. Pub food varies from chips in a basket to the full three courses. The Nag's Head down the road is also well worth a visit.

Pefect Pub Lunch http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/knightsbridge/pubs/swag-tails-sw71eg.html#r410 This is an adorable pub hidden down a mews street in Knightsbridge. Great for low key business lunches, or early weeknight suppers. Book tables, especially in the week because it is terribly popular. The menu is simple and delicious. I really, really like this place. Snuggly in the winter, light and airy in the summer. My only criticism is that there is only one female loo, which is tiny and means you have to stand and cue outside by the bar for what feels like ages. Especially if you've been knocking back the spritzers all afternoon.
