<![CDATA[Greater London - Westminster - Maida Vale - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Pubs - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Awful experience http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/maida-vale/pubs/the-waterway-w92ju.html#r41447 The selling point for this place seems to be what they term ‘the terrace’ (glorified way of saying outdoor space contained with some pot plants). I guess people like it particularly in the summer because of this and the pub itself looks over a canal – the view is far from great as the area is heavily residential and canals are hardly renowned for their beauty…Inside the pub there are plenty of seating areas and it all seems nice enough. We were sat outside and ate from the barbeque menu, the food was adequate.

What really defined our visit though was the appalling service, although there were many of them, staff were surly and slow – we were constantly reminded that we had our table for two hours but it took them half an hour just to get our drinks order to us (and wrong as well) and then there was a repeat of this for our food order too, which was disappointing.

In summary, there are plenty of better places in the area to drink and get some good food (without the attitude)!

Food not great http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/maida-vale/pubs/warrington-hotel-w91eh-1.html#r18629 I was excited when I heard that the mighty Gordon Ramsey had taken over my local. However, my experience there didnt live up to it's expectations! The pub downstairs is still a traditional pub which is great but the restaurant upstairs is bland to look at and the food is equally as bland and over priced! Maybe Gordon should record a hells kitchen in his own kitchen!

Booking disaster http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/maida-vale/pubs/warrington-hotel-w91eh-1.html#r8689 I tried to book this newly Gordon Ramsey'd and eagerly-anticipated local using their online booking form on a Monday and the restaurant did not contact me at all.

Having forgotten about the booking I e-mailed them the following Saturday to check whether I could book a table for 4 for the coming Tuesday. This time I got a call back from a woman who didn't seem to know where she was calling from and then said the only table she could offer me is 10pm on a Tuesday night.

Her English was not particularly good and she also seemed confused in general about the restaurant upstairs and the pub/bar downstairs and had to go and 'check' again.

While she was 'checking' (about which pub she worked in?) I got cut off and was not called back. I don't have a booking now.

I hope the food will make up for it when I eventually do manage to get a booking. Best go there on my way home and speak to them face-to-face and point to upstairs...

Best Mojito! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/maida-vale/pubs/the-waterway-w92ju.html#r4035 This bar is in the most beautiful setting, 10 minutes walk from Paddington station along the Grand Union Canal, or a stones throw from Warwick Ave tube - but a much less interesting walk. In the summer you'll be lucky to get a seat outside, but in the winter there is a fire which keeps everyone nice and toasty. The cocktails are to die for, in particular the Cosmo, Raspberry Mojito and Bellini, all very good value and service with a smile. Lovely atmosphere, can get quite loud I have never eaten here - just sampled some of the bar snacks to take the edge off! (chilli crackers are a good choice) But have heard good things from people who have.
