<![CDATA[Greater London - Westminster - Soho - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Pubs - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en some of the worst http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/soho/pubs/fitzroy-tavern-w1t2na.html#r74554 As Managing director of Pear Shaped in Fitzrovia Comedy Club I feel there may be an unfortunate element of truth in the above review. But steps are being taken constantly to improve the gig. In 2009 we bought a new microphone stand and a new light for £15 from Littewoods using a freebie token. This has not improved the quality of the acts but it has made us feel much better about ourselves and less depressed. There are 2 paid acts - doing 15 and 10 min respectively. The rest are all open spots limited to five minutes for the sake of the Mangement and Audience's sanity. There is also Banjo music to drown out the sound of new acts bitching about gigs they cant get on at ... and food is available - just like jongleurs ... only with 292 less people in the room.

meet a person...make a friend :D http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/soho/pubs/punk-w1d3dn.html#r72145 The staff in Punk are propberly the most friendly people i have met in london...im a party girl so i love going out and about exploring the night life of london, but Punk is the one place i keep going back too. With its savvy decorations and convenient location, its proberly my most favourite club in london :D. Each night is different and it gets really packed on fridays and saturdays...the range of people you meet there is amazing from if you go earlyier in the week Punk attracts thoes indi-alternative retro guys and on the fridays and saturdays its totally like a different place..with sexy ladies dressed to make your mouth drop to the dark handsome guys that make you dribble :D it is THE club in London.

Don't Eat there http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/soho/pubs/pillars-of-hercules-w1d4df.html#r71151 If oven fish and chips that you cook at home (but not as good) tickles your fancy eat here. I say not as good, what I really mean is awful.

Eating the ice cubes from my diet coke was a more tasteful experience.

You have been warned. Go for a drink by all means I am sure the pub ambiance is great for a pint, a pack of trusted brand crisps and a social chat is great.

A Herculean Mix http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/soho/pubs/pillars-of-hercules-w1d4df.html#r71149 Wet with anticipation, the 5 of us took our seats at the table and browsed the menu for inspiration.

I looked past the 'award winning pies' that my good colleague took a shine to and proceeded to order the Mixed Grill from the Specials board.

Whilst we conversed the 45 minute wait seem to breeze by, all this time my mouth watering and stomach rumbling in anticipation.

Thank god then that what was laid in front of me was something unique........

I have never seen a mixed grill that you could fit in its entirety onto a 6 yr olds hand. What can only be described as a cocktail sausage and a piece of chicken and a lamb chop presented to me and upon complaing received zero apologies from the 'kind' barman.

I can infact go one further to say that i have never seen 5 such sorry meals served in London.

Now back in the office we wait with baited breath to see how long it takes before our friend who plummed for the Fish gets to see his course once more.

Go for a drink but dont stay for the food.

Apparently Dickens referenced the pub in a novel.

The great man also wrote famously: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."

Choice words.....

Green Thai curry a must! Fantastic food, friendly staff and reasonable prices. I have been to this restaurant three times and it never fails to impress me!

Dirt cheap beer & quirky oche. Champion! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/soho/pubs/the-champion-w1t3pg.html#r67325 The Champion is one of many Sam Smith’s pubs in this area but surely one of the best. It boasts the usual Sam Smith’s beers and jaw-dropping prices (£1.86 for a pint of bitter!) as well as a historic and interesting interior but it’s main feature of note in my opinion is the dartboard tucked away in own little cubby-hole. So many London pubs are losing their dartboards that this makes The Champion worth a journey for.

I have whiled away many an enjoyable hour in here playing darts and supping the ales, stouts & wheat beers whilst barely troubling my bank balance. If there is a wait for a table at the nearby Pho restaurant (excellent Vietnamese cuisine) pop into The Champion, have a beer and relax. Your time will come!

Great for lunch, good guest beers http://www.welovelocal.com/en/london/westminster/soho/pubs/the-crown-two-chairmen-w1d3sb.html#r65060 A very good pub for lunch, they normally have a few good offers on, recently it was a pint and a sandwich fort a fiver, which if you're reading this outside London may sound like a joke, but in the heart of London's buzzing 'meeja' land of Soho, that's pretty good going. Burgers here are also good, and the dining room upstairs has lots of comfy tables, but you might need to wait at busier times. Booze - good selection of beers, and they usually have a couple of decent real ales guesting at the bar. Staff are very good, what's not to like?
