<![CDATA[North West - Manchester - Manchester - Eating, Drinking and Nightlife - Bars - Reviews]]> http://www.welovelocal.com Reviews from welovelocal.com en Walrus http://www.welovelocal.com/en/nw/manchester/manchester/bars/walrus-m41es.html#r43764 The first aspect of Walrus which I feel obliged to highlight, are the plate glass doors as you enter. I mention these so that you don’t suffer a similar fate as me, and confidently stride straight in to them.

Luckily I suffered no serious injury and was able to enjoy, what I would consider to be, one of the best bars that Manchester’s Northern Quarter has to offer. The live DJ energizes the place but doesn’t dominate, the drinks selection is creative and the décor is flamboyant but falls short of garish.

Food wise, Walrus has created what it calls a ‘canteen lounge environment’. What they actually mean by that is not clear, but the menu did look quite adventurous and alternative with an Asian theme running through it.

Walrus has only been open since December of last year but its popularity is sure to grow.

cool and original http://www.welovelocal.com/en/nw/manchester/manchester/bars/troff-m41eg.html#r41484 Situated within the uber cool Northern quarter area of Manchester Troff is set on three floors, don't be fooled by it's size as it has a very intimate feel about it. Every night of the week sees Troff open it's doors to various genres of music ranging from folk to electronica. The only down side is the price for a pint as it's quite expensive. All in all - well worth a try.

Classy http://www.welovelocal.com/en/nw/manchester/manchester/bars/bluu-bar-m41bd.html#r34057 I love Bluu Bar. It's not cheap but it is most definitely classy. It's in the up and coming boho chic district called the Northern Quarter (i don't even know what BOHO CHIC is but I wanted to say it).

Inside it is very sexy, the decor is uber cool and the food and drinks are incredible. The food is superb and the cocktails are amazing. Definitely worth the money here

Oh what memories... http://www.welovelocal.com/en/nw/manchester/manchester/bars/loaf-m15lh.html#r28450 Loaf was THE place to be when I was a kid...the good old days.

Here's what happens on Deansgate Locks. You start at Loaf, if you don't get there then you try the one next door, then the one next door then the one next door....if you don't get into Loaf then there are other options but you might as well start here and see if you get in.

It's quite smart inside, some people's idea of hell, some people's idea of heaven because they like a bit of pretentious grandeur. There is a downstairs and you can go out next to the canal if you feel the need to be sick or just want fresh air. The staff are ok, sometimes you get the feeling the bouncer wants any reason to not let you in but generally it's a top night out.

Describes itself as a bisexual bar! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/nw/manchester/manchester/bars/tribeca-bed-m13wf.html#r18381 Tribeca is a really funky Manhattan loft style bar just on the edge of Manchester’s Gay Village. It is a straight friendly gay bar - describes itself as bisexual. It has a big bar serving cocktails and bottled beers with sofas and booths. Also, downstairs is bed which stands for Beverage, Entertainment and Dining, Where you can eat or just lounge about on beds!? This bit can be hired out for private functions.

Shots till you drop! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/nw/manchester/manchester/bars/baa-bar-m13lz.html#r17331 Whatever ya flava yall welcome! The shot menu is a neverending story and a wanting to try them all kicks in quicker than you could say beam me up scotty! This one is better then the one on the Deansgate Locks as there aren't ugly yucky so much older than you men trying to touch you up all the time. And it is better seating arranged too!

Absolutely Fabulous! http://www.welovelocal.com/en/nw/manchester/manchester/bars/fab-cafe-m16dn.html#r17321 Oh where can one begin? The interior is just brilliant. All old school memorabilia from selected TV shows, films, comics etc. The drinks are over priced but sometimes you just have to treat yorself a bit and I think this place is worth it.

Most expensive vodka ever http://www.welovelocal.com/en/nw/manchester/manchester/bars/kro-bar-m139pg.html#r6344 Well, it probably isn't, but it's the most expensive I have ever bought. I went here on recommendation from some Porcupine Tree fans and to be fair, it is very nice inside. That said, the food isn't amazing and nor are the drinks. A double vodka and coke cost me £6 which is the most I have ever paid for a vodka and coke.

I was also unimpressed by the food. It was served quickly but that's because the chicken was cold (it didn't say this in the menu) and it wasn't all that great.

Don't bother going here. I recommend The Oxford instead which does decent pub food and has fairer prices - it's just up the road too (face Kro Bar, and head right on the same side of the road as Kro, by the junction).
